Gallardo & Bailey's Value

Postby CraigZem » Fri Apr 30, 2010 5:02 am

I'm trying to guage the value of some of my pitching and what type of offense I can get in return. I'm in desperate need of some pop. Kinsler is coming back today, which will be a nice addition, but I need to take away some of my speed in the OF/UTIL position and upgrade.

So far I have the following potential offers, non of which I really love, but I need to start making some sacrifices if I want to stay competitive.

1. Andrew Bailey for Vladimir Guerro straight up. He's just a UTIL guy, and he's old, but is hot right now. I'm assuming that won't last and he'll break down soon enough.

2. Gallardo & Bailey for Jorge Cantu & Jay Bruce. I think cantu's stock is inflated now, and I just don't like Bruce at all.

Now, with the 2nd offer, there are other names that can get involved - Jason Bay, Curtis Granderson, Jason Heyward, Billy Butler, & Martin Prado for example. Out of all the names mentioned, what do you think I should go after. I already tried Ubaldo/Carpenter & Bailey for Miggy, but he didn't want to give up his top guy.

If you don't like any of the name mentioned, who do you think I should target? BTW, ALL my pitchers below are available and I'm willing to part ways with.

OFFENSE:

C - Ivan Rodriguez
1B - Justin Morneau
2B - Juan Uribe (Ian Kinsler on DL)
3B - A-Rod
SS - Tulo
OF - Josh Willingham
OF - Scott Podsednik
OF - Bobby Abreau
UTIL - Michael Cuddyer
UTIL - Nyjer Morgan
BENCH - Michael Bourn
BENCH - Brett Gardner

PITCHING:
SP - Chris Carpenter
SP - Ubaldo Jimenez
SP - Yovanni Gallardo
SP - Cole Hamels
SP - John Danks
SP - Edwin Jackson
SP - Kevin Slowey
SP - Shaun Marcum
SP - JA Happ
SP - Brad Penny

To me Gallardo is going to be pretty much the same type pitcher we saw last year. I haven't seen any improvement. Still walks too may and throws too may pitches. I don't see 180-190 K's. I see a .500 pitcher. Something like he was last year. So I'm thinking hes a bit overrated.
