"Almost 90 percent of his plate appearances this season have come in the 8-hole, and batting eighth basically means the brakes are on, according to Brewers manager Ken Macha.
'He hits in front of the pitcher right now,' said Macha. 'So if he's on first with nobody out or one out, the pitcher is bunting. If he's on with two outs, I don't want him running and making the last out, leaving us with the pitcher leading off.'"
with Gomez on the DL, maybe they can let this kid actually get some AB in the 2 spot?
ive been going through multiple SS with both Rollins(SS) and ECabrera(MI) on the DL. Escobar just cleared waivers and im thinking about picking him up, but im currently using Clint Barmes who is actually doing better than Escobar.
Hopefully he can get up to the 2 hole. It's a waste for a guy with his speed to be banned from running, it makes him useless offensively, fantasy and real life.
Escobar will be batting in the 2 spot tonight. rotoworld
Alcides Escobar is batting second against the Phillies on Sunday. It's a rather bizarre decision. Escobar has hit .217/.274/.348 with no stolen bases this season and is in the middle of a 7-for-49 (.143) slump. Regardless, any move up the order is great news for Escobar's fantasy prospects, as Brewers manager Ken Macha has already explained that he will almost never send his eighth hitter on a stolen base attempt with the pitcher batting. Many fantasy owners would love to see Escobar -- one of the season's notable fantasy disappointments -- swipe his first base this evening. Others have already cut bait and moved on.
maybe if he can get on this will allow him to run. hes facing Hamels tonight. Escobar is batting 1.000 AVG vs Hamels, allthough its just 1 for 1 with a single.
In the 2 spot tonight for the first time all season. With C Gomez and Edmonds injured, Macha decided it's Alcides turn to take a ride in the constantly-changing-circus that is the #2 spot in the batting order. My guess is Escobar gets on base 2 or 3 times tonight, but Macha puts someone like Greg Zaun in the 2-hole tomorrow. With the way he's managing the club, don't get too excited about Escobar being in there tonight, but at least it's a baby step.
Escobar back in the 2 hole for the 2nd night in a row, and he gets a SB!! 2 for 5 tonight. over his last 5 games including tonight has gone 7 for 21. hopefully this can continue, even when Gomez returns.
hes been getting the hits lately, but still not stealing. his AVG rising is nice, but i imagine coming into the season his best value was going to come from the steals. as long as he is batting 8th he just wont be stealing. i hope that he can continue to hit and the Brewers can move him into the 2 hole. Escobar's AVG/OBP arnt exactly screaming move me to the 2 hole, but Gomez's AVG/OBP arnt exactly that good either. in gomez 4 seasons he hasnt had OBP above .300 once yet. whats the fascination from Milwaukee to continue to use Gomez in the 2 hole?
