No save for F. Cordero tonight?

Postby Skimo77 » Wed Apr 28, 2010 10:46 pm

I'm watching the MLB network and i'm wondering why Cordero was not credited with the save on Yahoo! ... maybe they're just really slow to put it up... or am i just dumb?

it wasn't a save opp. mlb, yahoo, and espn all have him as not credited for a save tonight. there are lots of nit-picky rules about what is, and what is not a save opportunity, and obviously this was not because was not given the save on those 3 major sites...not sure exactly why though.

It's simple. When Cordero went in the tying run was not on deck. So, not a save.

When Cordero went in the tying run was not on deck.

:-? That wouldn't explain 3-run lead saves.

A pitcher is credited with a save when that pitcher finishes a game won by his team, was not the winning pitcher and one of the following:
1)Pitches three or more innings
2)Comes into a game with a lead of three or less and pitches at least one full inning.
3)Comes into the game with the potential tying run on base, at bat, or on deck

In other words, a save will only be given for a three run lead if the pitcher pitches an entire inning. Cordero came in with one out, bases empty, and a three run lead. The potential tying run was not on base, at bat, or on deck - hence no save.

If he comes in a brand new inning with a 3-run lead that's a save situation. That's the most common, which was why I didn't include it.
