I watched his game today, the first time I've seen him this year.
The gun on TV was measuring his fastball in the 93-95mph range and his stuff looked pretty nasty.
It seemed clear to me that his wildness and his distrust of his other pitches besides his fastball are the problems here. He repeatedly had trouble throwing strikes, would fall behind in the count, and once that happened, it was obvious to everyone that he was going to throw a fastball. The hitters just waited for him to fall behind and then sat on his fastball. And this was Cleveland, too.

He's lost a lot of velocity. Wouldn't be surprised if he's hurt. I wrote a piece about him on Sunday, hours before hearing that he was demoted to AAA...

Max Scherzer, SP DET
News: Tigers minor leaguer Max Scherzer made a strong statement Thursday that he wants back in the major leagues. Scherzer, who was demoted to the minors on May 16, made his first start for Triple-A Toledo on Thursday and was quite impressive. He held Durham to one hit in eight scoreless innings. Rashad Eldridge's double with two outs in the second was the only hit the Bulls got against Scherzer. His only other blemish was a walk. Scherzer had six three-up, three-down innings. Oh yeah, he also struck out 10 in the process.

Analysis: Tigers manager Jim Leyland said the other day that Scherzer was sent down to get straightened out. He probably didn't even think it would take one outing for Scherzer to set the world on fire. Scherzer's secondary pitches need help that the minor leagues can provide. He likely won't be recalled because of this outing, but it is a very good start for the talented right-hander. Make sure to stash Scherzer in deeper seasonal Fantasy formats. We expect him back up in 2010.

This was on cbs sports tonight. Very impressive start in AAA

Max Scherzer turned in a second consecutive outstanding outing since being sent to Toledo after posting a 1-4 record and 7.29 ERA in Detroit. He gave up one run on three hits in seven innings against Syracuse, finishing with seven strikeouts and one walk. Scherzer (2-0) has a 0.60 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 15 innings. He has allowed only four hits and two walks.

As a Tiger fan and an owner who picked him up when word of his recall came, I am double excited since he clinched me a fantasy W!!
