The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the Rangers intend to demote 1B Chris Davis to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday and recall prospect Justin Smoak from the same affiliate. (Updated 04/22/2010). Fantasy Analysis We know Davis is having a tough start to the season, but we didn't think Texas would pull the plug this fast. But with Smoak hitting .326 in the minors, Texas is trying to send a message to its struggling first baseman. However, much like the Mets with rookie Ike Davis, Smoak could be here to stay. He has solid power potential and can also hit for average. Consider adding Smoak in all larger Fantasy formats.

I would. IMO LaRoche isn't much better than most WW 1B, and he has no upside beyond what we've already seen. Smoak is a top prospect with an excellent sense of the strike zone. He should hit for average, get on base at a very high rate, and will develop power over the course of the season, especially considering his home park.

smoak has been compared to a young mark teixeira clone. switch-hitting elite power, high avg., great plate discipline, great defending first baseman. has all the makings of becoming a stud for years to come in arlington, however, as its been pointed out, the elite HR have yet to come. but you can also look at heyward as an example. heyward hasn't hit more than 17 HR in a single season in pro ball yet, but are people questioning his power?
I just drop A. Huff(SF- 1B) for Smoak(Tex-1B); was this a good move? I was batting Huff in my utility slot(which is Smoak will be) because he has been hitting 3rd in the Giants batting order.
