I have 6, IMO, quality outfielders and it pains me to bench one every day. It's a 16 team, 6x6 H2H with BB and L added to hitting and pitching respectively. Which OF should I try to move? Should I try to trade an OF and a closer like Fuentes for another SP or maybe a 2B?
C - Ivan Rodriguez 1B - Jorge Cantu 2B - Ian Desmond 3B - David Wright SS - Miguel Tejada LF - Carl Crawford CF - Andrew McCutchen RF - Jayson Werth Util - Alex Rios Util - Jason Heyward BN - Franklin Gutierrez BN - Clint Barmes BN - Russell Branyan
SP - Dan Haren SP - Ubaldo Jimenez RP - Joakim Soria RP - Brian Fuentes P - Octavio Dotel P - Chad Billingsley P - Shaun Marcum P - Justin Masterson BN - Livan Hernandez BN - Carlos Silva
I would use your OF surplus to upgrade your 1B spot. If I'm not mistaken, you have 3 CF's - McCutchen, Rios, and Gutierrez; check and see if anybody needs an upgrade at CF since it's the weakest out of the 3 OF slots. Since Crawford is your only LF (again, let me know if I'm wrong), I would probably not trade him away. Werth will probably get you the nicest 1B (D. Lee possibly?) without also weakening your team too much since you can slide Heyward into the RF slot.
I think Desmond should be acceptable for you at 2B, and definitely better than anybody else you mentioned. Castillo is a much worse fantasy player, even with the extra games over Desmond. In the meantime, I would drop Barmes for Kotchman to platoon/backup Cantu at 1B.
Finally, be careful about trading Fuentes or one of your other closers; with Losses as an extra category it weakens SP's slightly while boosting the value of RP's. You have three legit closers in a 16-team league; that's a huge advantage and I would not give that up unless I was getting something amazing in return.
I agree alot with the poster above. I would try to turn one of your OF into an upgrade at 1b. I think that would be the best use of the surplus of OFs you have.
Agreed with the two guys above. Cantu shouldn't be your top 1B. See if you can trade someone like Werth for Heyward for a mid-level 1B (Lee, Gonzalez, Dunn, Youkilis, etc.)
I agree with everyone here that you need to upgrade at 1B. Your offer of Werth straight up for Morneau probably won't get accepted, but it never hurts to try. Maybe you could package Rios and Cantu for a top tier 1B. As for 2B, Desmond is just as good as the ones you've listed, so you'll be fine there. Keep an eye on S.Rodriguez. The moment he strings together a few good outings he should see more consistant starts (since Maddon seems to like the kid a lot) and could be a big time sleeper at 2B.
