We've become accustomed to the big 3: Mauer, McCann, and VMart. I think beginning next year it will be the big 5, and maybe even big 6 with the inclusion of M. Montero, and perhaps soon after the big 7 when the other Montero makes the leap to the Bigs.
I probably wouldn't group all these guys together on the same tier especially for keepers.
As of right now in a league that keeps 6, here are mine:
Miguel Cabrera Hanley Ramirez Tim Lincecum
Jason Heyward Andrew McCutchen Ian Kinsler Carlos Santana Tommy Hanson
I've been thinking of trading 2 of Hanson/McCutchen/Kinsler for one more stud and then opening up a slot to keep Santana and hopefully re-draft Hanson next year.
God, I hate seeing this thread, mine's the 9th post in...I hung onto Carlos from Apr 21 until Shapiro said he wasn't close to being called up (around June 4th), then he was called up about a week later. "Damn you Black Dynamite, got me with the ol' pie in the window sill trick yet again."

Was hoping to wait until early May to stash him in my cafe league, but you forced my hand
I can't think of too many other call ups (bats at least) that could have as big of an impact this season. You have guys like Smoak, Jennings, Pedro Alvarez and Stanton that could be mid to late season call ups, but they play deeper positions. Looking for Santana to really make a difference at C this year.

I agree. I'm not necessarily saying they're all in the same tier, and keeper/dynasty leagues certainly change things. I guess my point is that for years there were only 3 catchers worth spending an early draft pick on. But we're seeing an infusion of young talent at the position that will completely change the landscape of the position for, hopefully, years to come.

'Grats to you guys that have him.
That happened to me in one league as well. I feel for ya.
If Santana started the season in the majors, he could easily have smashed Ted Williams record # of walks in a rookie season (107 in 1939). Hell, at the pace he's going now, he won't be far off.

Why is this so crazy to believe? He is the most polished MLB ready bat in the minors right now?
This IS crazy to believe.
