RIP Guru

Postby AquaMan2342 » Tue Apr 20, 2010 3:18 pm

I know most of you guys are kind of old and crotchety :-D , but Guru from Gang Starr died today of cancer. Gang Starr represented all that was right to me in hip-hop...FWIW "Moment of Truth" might be my favorite rap track ever. Anyways, sad to see him succumb to cancer at such a young age. RIP Guru. :-/

Also: I never really knew he had a falling out with DJ Premier, but I guess it is so.

One of my all-yime favorites. I've probably listened to Mass Appeal as much as any other album throughout my life. That letter supposedly from Guru is suspect, though. I'm not entirely buying that it was written by him.

Is there speculation on it? I didn't really look any deeper into it, just figured it must be so.

The timing doesn't really make sense and the style and content make me question whether or not it was actually written by Guru. If I had to guess, I'd say Solar penned it, but that's obviously just speculation. There is some stuff on youtube from a family member of Guru's that kind of shines a light on Solar and some of the shady stuff he's pulled.

'Work' is one of my all-time favorite summer/cruising songs.
