Lots of big-name pitchers on the WW... who should I pick up?

Postby krunchyfrogg » Tue Apr 20, 2010 12:53 pm

This is in a 9 team, 6x6 roto league.

The FA pitchers are:
Wandy, Dempster, Gavin Floyd, Jurrjens, Peavy, Porcello, Correia, Kuroda

My team is listed in my signature. I'd be interested in dropping one of my SP (Lackey is the weakest link IMHO, LMK if you think otherwise)for one of these.

TIA, & WHIR, as always.
Looking forward to back to back championships in 2011!

I have to tell you, for a 9 team 6x6 league it is not your staff that I would look to upgrade. I like Lackey, along with your other pitchers. Depending on if your league has a max moves limit, or your ethics with regard to flipping pitchers, you might be best off pickin up SP's off the WW based on matchups to help you in K's and wins. Of the SP's you listed, actually like Wandy and Dempster best, with Peavy close third, but they are all well above average.

With that kind of talent on the WW for pitchers I can only imagine what is on the WW for hitters, and surely you could upgrade on Polanco at 2B and Guillen in the OF. If you want to leave a list I would be happy to give you my opinion.

Good Luck.

Wandy's got the best stuff on that list. I think the Astros will always be the Astros, but Berkman's return might light a fire that will keep them at least somewhat competitive. it's a risky pick-up, but i think he'd be the best pick-up on that list.

Like the previous poster, i'm torn on Peavy vs. Dempster for your second slot.

I would try and get Wandy, Dempster, Floyd, Jurrjens, and Peavy on my team some how... even if that means flipping my other SPs for offensive upgrades. Float some of your guys around to target a replacement for Guillen and Polanco, maybe even Soto, and plunder the FA pitching. Even in a 9-teamer, there is no reason Wandy/Jurrjens should be unowned, and Dempster, Floyd, and Peavy all have really nice upsides. Porcello/Correia/Kuroda could probably be left on the WW.

I've been trying to upgrade my hitters through trades, but most people aren't biting at fair deals! Guillen is only there until his hot streak comes to an end. I enjoy playing the hot hand with a few slots on my team. Maybe he'll be the one to go when I want to pick up a pitcher for a start here and there.
