An Owner is Having a Fire Sale

Postby wkpdpack » Sat Apr 17, 2010 11:49 am

One owner is already giving up on the year. His rebuild team is not doing well enough for him. I know he's interested in my Braun and Kemp and also in Posey.

I'd need to get a lot in return for Braun or Kemp since they will be a top 5 or 10 keeper next year. Not sure his team has enough for me in return. Posey I'd be more willing to deal since he probably won't help me much this year. Right now I'm in 1st and should compete for a place in the money.

This is a 5x5 roto scoring, KEEPER league (which is why he wants Braun or Kemp) However, I'm not a big believer in dealing a top guy in return for multiple lesser players.

Please let me know if he has any combination of players on his team that you would deal Braun or Kemp for. Also, let me know what combination of players you would deal Posey for.

My team:
C- Suzuki, Iannetta
1B- Howard
2B- O. Hudson (Roberts on DL)
3B- Wright
SS- S. Drew
MI- Aybar
CI- Morneau
OF- Braun, Kemp, Willingham, Franceour, Damon
U- C. Jackson
P- Cliff Lee (DL), Jimenez, Hamels, B. Anderson, Arroyo, Dice-K (DL), Carmona, Pavano, Piniero, Fuentes (DL), Franklin
Bench- Hart, Ross, Saunders
Minor league bench-Snider, Fowler, Posey, D. Brown, Reddick

His team:
C- Wieters, Avila
1B- Votto
2B- Sizemore
3B- Zimmerman
SS- Tulo
MI- Desmond
CI- Beckham
OF- C. Gonzalez, Headley, Maybin, Stubbs, Victorino
U- A. Jackson
P- Cueto, G. Gonzalez, Kennedy, Leake, Matusz, Morales, Valverde, Zito
Bench- J. Garcia, Masterson
Minor league bench- J. Castro, J. Montero, P. Alvarez, J. Bell, Chapman, Storen

Thanks for the thoughts,
Kris

If it was me I'm not sure i would deal kemp or braun to him...I would consider trying to play around with getting Wieters from him if you can though

he's got nothing to offer you besides Wieters/Tulo/C.Gonz/Beckham

if you can pull something off to get wieters that would be good, but to me it makes no sense why i would give up one high potential C in the bigs for one thats in the minors

Tulo is probably off limits

C.Gonzalez is a possiblity and will solidify your OF. but i don't see any realistic trade possiblities

Beckham I think could be worth targeting, but It might take some work. He'll solidify your infield especially when Roberts comes back.
Posey/Aybar for Beckham (probably not enough, but at least it will open dialogue)

please help

I could offer Posey and Ross, Hart, Frenchy for Wieters and Valverde. Not sure he'll give up Wieters, though, without getting a keeper in return.

i think any trade you make unless you rip him off will only hurt you. All of your keepers are better thank his. Braun & Kemp alone make most his team look like WW material.

you just don't have the depth really to make any major moves

your team is good as is, i wouldn't hurt it

I'm thinking Braun or Kemp for Wieters and Gonzales. That trade is probably too one-sided for him to take though. Can't hurt to try it first anyway. if not, add Suzuki to it. No need to keep both Wieters and Suzuki anyway. If Wieters and Gonzales live up to expectations, should come out ahead in a couple years.

Thanks for your help with mine. I scoured your team and his and I couldn't come up w/ a single move that seemed plausible. Stay put! :-)

Thanks for helping me out.

A lot of people here are saying to stay put but I think if you make the right move, you can really take this league. Plus, if he's desperate/giving up, then you have all of the leverage and you can at least float outrageous deals and see if he bites. I think pitching wins championships and I really like Matusz. He may be on a crappy team but he's got great stuff and can still have a big year. I would also target Chapman for obvious reasons. Right now your hitters are solid. I don't think you even need to replace Kemp/Braun if you deal one. Offer something crazy like Braun or Kemp for Matusz, Chapman and Kennedy or something. Throw in Ross/Hart maybe. If he doesn't take that (he probably won't) then Braun/Kemp for just Matusz and Chapman which could be pretty good value in a keeper league. Your pitching would rock for the next few years. And drop Saunders. Good luck.

I would consider Kemp for Cargo and Beckham or Tulo.
