Trade Help WHIR!

Postby Urban Cohorts » Sat Apr 17, 2010 9:16 am

Standard Yahoo 5x5 H2H Keeper League (8 Keepers).

My Tulo SS and J Johnson SP for his Longoria 3B, D Price SP, and a 3rd round draft pick in 2012 (which would be an 11th round pick in a normal league).

My major concerns here:
A) Is Longoria that much better than Tulo? - 3B looks a lot deeper to me than SS does, but I could be wrong (any input on this?).
B) Will D Price be an ace 2-3 years from now. I know he has major talent, but Josh Johnson does as well and has proven himself. Injury risk to Johnson is the only thing that worries me (is this unfair?).
C) Am I overpaying? I think I might be overpaying a tad, but I'm not sure.

All comments/thoughts/advice are highly appreciated. I will respond to everyone who helps me out! Thanks all!

What does the rest of your roster look like?

I am leaning to say no as Tulo could have very well been a late 1st round pick this year

Can you help here?

It certainly depends on the rest of your team, IMO. Who's in your 3B spot now and who would take over the SS spot without Tulo? And would Price automatically become one of the 8 keepers? You know that JJ would be barring injury.

At SS, I have E Cabrera SD and Desmond WAS as backups. I also have Dustin at 2B to help out with my middle infield. For 3B, I currently have Rolen CIN, B Wood LAA, and A Gordon KC. So my backups for SS are at least playable and MAY end up being good (in my mind) whereas my 3B are probably not going to work out. I have a lot more faith in Cabrera and Desmond breaking out than I do Wood.

I am loaded at SP. Aside from Johnson, I have Wainwright, Billingsley, Matusz (who I love), Strasburg, and Slowey. Ideally I want to keep 5 hitters and 3 SP. But since SP is so volatile, I want guys who I know are going to be solid over the next 2-3 years. Johnson only scares me because of his workload increase last year. The guy is keeper quality, but if he gets injured I lose one of my best trading chips.

Going forward I'd keep what you have. Tulo will continue to get better and he's at a much shallower position. Don't read too much into Price's 1st 2 starts. His value will never be any higher than it is now. JJ is a stud and will continue to be a stud in the NL. I'd revisit the trade after a month tho.

I say stick with what you have. Tulo and Longoria are not that far off in terms of value since I also view SS as more shallow than 3B. I like J.Johnson way more than Price which is why I don't do this deal for you.
