Which C?

Postby rails80 » Fri Apr 16, 2010 7:13 am

So when Montero went down, I picked up Barajas. He's hit .250 with 2 RBI...not bad.

But there's some intriguing options available through FA.

Mike Napoli
Geovany Soto
Miguel Olivo
John Baker
Chris Ianetta
Jason Kendall

I don't mind platoons if the guy is going to put up better stats in half the starts than another guy. Mainly looking for a guy who won't kill my already meager batting average. I'm thinking Baker.

Unless you are in a 10 man league, Napoli and Soto should not be sitting on the wire.

I would get both on my team somehow.

If I had to pick one, I go Napoli. I think he starts playing more and freakin mashes!

Both, huh?

I added Napoli and dropped Barajas.

Here's the rest of the roster - see anyone I should drop for Soto? I don't...I know the easy answer is Strasburg, but I think he's going to be huge later in the year.

C - Napoli
1B - Cabrera
2B - Zobrist
3B - Reynolds
SS - Reyes
LF - Bay
CF - Ad Jones
RF - Abreu
Util - Cruz
Util - McGehee
BN - Tejada, Reimold, Podsednik
DL - Montero

SP - Hernandez, Hamels
RP - Nunez, Gregerson
P - Peavy, Dotel, Affeldt, Gutierrez
BN - Scherzer, Meche, Strasburg
DL - Lidge

Drop Meche - he shouldn't be rostered in anything but the deepest of leagues.

Second on the chopping block - Gregerson.

I'm actually looking to drop one or both of them for a HOLDS guy...I'm getting none out of anyone right now.

as a Soto owner i would have to say Soto.
Napoli is interesting but i really dont see him playing as much as he should the Angels are going to use Mathis and with Matsui at DH then Napoli wont be getting much time there. Napoli had 114 games last season and with the defense from Mathis maybe Napoli doesnt even get that in 2010.
Soto had bad luck last season. i dont think Soto is as good as he was in 2008, but he could get back close to that.
none of the others really impress me for starting full time. if your platooning C then Baker could be good. i dont think he plays all the time in Florida as he splits time with Paulino? but Baker is good against RH pitching.
09- .281/.354/.420/.774
08- .327/.417/.487/.904
but if he is splitting time with Paulino then your going to need another C to fill in.

Grab Soto... even if he is struggling right now. Those other options are just not that exciting. Napoli is having a huge playing time problem right now too. I have Jeff Clement as my substitute for Miguel Montero, but he has been abysmal. Since he's only a fill-in until Montero gets back, I'm thinking of cutting him loose for Snyder, who I know will bat .240 but hopefully he'll hit a few bombs along the way.
