Gonzalez hits DL, who to pick up? WHIR 100%

Postby saemick » Wed Apr 14, 2010 4:14 pm

With Mike Gonzalez hitting the DL, who should I pick up in his place? Below are the best FA's available:

Closers:
Rodney (LAA)
Gregg (TOR)

Setup (for Holds):
Downs (TOR)
Bard (BOS)
Gregerson (SD)

Batter:
Sean Rodriguez (TB - 2b, OF)
Ian Desmond (Was - 2B, SS)
Austin Jackson (Det - OF)
Gaby Sanchez (Fla - 1B)

below is my current roster:

12-team 6x6 H2H Yahoo! NON-KEEPER league (includes HOLDS)
c: Doumit
1b: Miguel Cabrera
2b: Cano
ss: Stephen Drew
3b: David Wright
IF: Chris Davis
OF: Sizemore, Granderson, BJ upton
Utl: Carlos Gonzalez
BN: E. Cabrera, Heyward
SP: Hamels, Nolasco, James Shields, Scherzer, J. Sanchez, Buchholz, Slowey
RP: Bell, Neftali Feliz, Frasor, Joba
DL: Wood, Mike Gonzalez
Stat categories: Hitters: R, HR, RBI, SB, BA, OPS Pitchers: W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, HOLDS

Since this league has Holds, I was considering Downs or Bard, but with both Sizemore & Cargo being hurt a little I might need a little help to fill in if they're out for any extended time...and I can always use Closers as trade bait...

I'd go with Rodney.

Though with holds - I'd be real tempted to go with Gregg. The situation is a bigger mess, but at least if he's setting up you still can use him. You really need a closer though.

Id go with Daniel Bard. You currently have 3 closers and a total of 5 rostered, and Joba as your only source of Holds. I'd nab Bard. Desmond was tempting but I think Heyward is more then able to hold down a starting spot while you split time with CarGo and Grady until both are 100% healthy. Rodney is tempting, but I think you could benefit more from Bard.

Gregg is a heck no in my eyes. Its already been reported that Gaston doesn't want to use closers on back 2 back nights, and he has Frasor, Gregg and Downs as all arms that can handle that task, so it basically becomes a closer by committee.

Help me out...

Nevermind, go get Kevin Gregg, he will be the Jays closer as of today...if Marcum and Romero can do as well as they have been lately, Gregg will be a decent save man, and the way Gonzo has been...eww

I forgot to include Gregerson as an available option for holds. That being said, it looks like it's between:
Rodney
or
Bard

but with the addition of Gregerson to the list, does this change anyones opinion?

you'd take Gregg over Rodney?

And there's no way I can give up on ECab just yet, the kid has 50+ SB potential

whoops i forgot about rodney.
i'd take rodney over gregg, but rodney is only going to be temporary.
gregg has potential to be their closer

i drafted e-cab too but you have so much speed already with your of's.
if you ask me he's just wasting space on your roster.

I would add Gregerson over Bard then. You get the best of both worlds there, Rodney everyone is saying for saves (until Fuentes comes back, and yes Brian WILL get the job back) and myself for Bard for holds. Gregerson will get you those holds, good ratios, strong Ks and have a solid chance at holds with all the chance Bell gets dealt to a contender. Even if Bell doesn't Gregerson is still a top choice for holds.

As far as Everth goes, he can't drop him. He has an extra IF position, and if Davis struggles at least its an option that he can plug Cabrera in there and platoon a power bat with a speed guy.

Gregerson is the only move I'd make right now.

Forgot Fuentes was going on the DL today...so you could get a few saves if you needed from Rodney..but either get Bard or Gregerson...i think you should get a decent amount of saves...maybe take gregg over frasor right now since he was named the closer
