Hey all, joined up 16-teamer and looking for a little assistance, need to read all about the league tho first before jumping to conclustion. 16 team h2h points based system. You keep whole rosters year to year (league is in its 9th year, so young guys are really worth something in this league, as it sticks around). Trade currently proposed to me is: I Give: Adam Lind and Carlos Santana I Get: Matt Holliday and Cole Hamels Now I know its Holliday and Hamels, the 2 players I was trying to get from him, and at a discounted price basically, but one thing I fear is Santana’s future and also Linds future, as he was just showing what he could do last year. Am I a moron for even questioning this deal?
Also in talks with one other squad. Current offer is: I Give: Josh Hamilton and Justin Duchscherer I Get: Derek Jeter and Francisco Liriano He emailed me back and asked if there was any other player I would take in the deal instead of Jeter, this guy's big bats and arms are Teixeira, Jeter, Sabathia, Markakis, Torii Hunter, Nyjer Morgan, Mat Latos, Scott Kazmir. He seems pretty interested in the deal, simply because he would be getting rid of Liriano, who I don't think he really wants and I believe he really likes Hamilton. What would you cunter with? Taking into consideration the other deal I have with Hollday/Hamels most likely joining the squad...
Also just to give a bit more information to help, Hamels really doesn't carry as much value as in most leagues as we don't count Ks. Hamels 2009 point total - 99.67, 2008 point total - 148.83. Top arms in 2009 point total - Greinke and Felix at just over 180, 2008 point total leader - CC at 184.5.
Holliday point total comparrison: Holliday 2009: 114, Point total Leader: Pujols 152.5 Holliday 2008: 116, Point total Leader: Pujols 142.7
I've never played a league like this so sorry if I can't help much.
I don't think youll need Hamels as much as youll need Carlos Santana in the future. He is also at a very thin position. Obviously he won't win you anything this year, but for the future he will be worth a lot. With the way your league is set I would think hamels wouldn't carry much value. At least compared to regular leagues. But I like Holliday much more than Lind especially with his long contract hitting behind Pujols. He is pretty young too.
in the case of your league Carlos Santana > Cole Hamels and Holliday >> Lind
In my opinion I wouldn't take it. Holliday is much better than Lind in my opinion, to much to risk anyways....
Elite prospects are nice, but Holliday and Hamels help you win NOW and they are the proven talents. I'm taking those two without hesitation in this trade. There is no guarantee Carlos Santana rakes in the majors, and you can always replenish your stock of prospects. Bengie is getting up there in age, but he's still serviceable and should be able to land a full-time gig elsewhere next year.
I don't think I'd take the deal either. Holliday is better then Lind, but I don't think it's by that wide a margin. Lind is a very good top tier OF. Again, since you said that this league values younger players, Santana is the protypical player for this league. If you had a Mauer or VMart at C, I'd say fine, but you have an aging veteran in Molina who said he might retire next year if he's forced into a backup role, so you will need Santana. I've never been a big Hamels fan, and as you said, since the league doesn't count Ks I like him even less. So I think you are fine to stay with what you have and wouldn't pull the trigger on that one.
As for your other deal, if he's willing to send you Tex instead of Jeter, then I would do that.
Thanks for your help with mine....but I think I could part with Lind/Santana and get Holliday...Holliday is doing good right now, especially with a full season in St. Louis, whcih will help him out...and Hamels will eventually get back to this old form...and Santana still isnt called up yet and Lind...im sold on him, but his fast start somewhat scares me a bit, and i have a feeling he isn't as consistent as Holliday, and Holliday is the bigger name so he is a little bit better for trade bait down the road
I have never played in a league exactly like this one either, but after reading the scoring cat's & keeper info, it's definitely not as cut and dry, that's for sure. Still, I think i'd hold tight with what you have
Yes, Holliday is a stud, but the gap between him and Lind isn't THAT great and Lind should be good for a while. And with Pitchers not really getting a whole lot of love with this format, Hamels' value isn't nearly as high as it could be.
Now, on to Santana; yeah he's still a prospect, but this kid looks to be a STUD. and since you can keep him for a while, he could be extremely valuable
I think besides speed, Lind and Holliday are comparable (blah blah, hits behind Pujols blah), but I think Carlos Santana is an important keep in your league and may even be up in June. I'd hang in.
take Holliday/Hamels - Lind is a stud but no better than Holliday and Santana is a prospect - and we all know there are not very can't miss prospects...
