Wainwright and McCutchen for Lind and Dempster

Postby lone ranger » Tue Apr 13, 2010 2:16 am

I have been offered the trade:

OF Adam Lind
AND
SP Ryan Dempster

for

OF Andrew McCutchen
AND
SP Adam Wainwright

My team is in need of a batter with a high HR count and a high average (both of which Lind is projected to have). I'm set as far as steals go - I have Pedroia, Wright, Bartlett, Zobrist, Victorino, Coghlan, and Rajai Davis in that department - so McCutchen's big steal projection is not a significant loss. Ryan Dempster though? Is his relatively weak arm worth the power and consistency of Lind's bat? And is Wainwright safe to let go? As of now, my pitching staff is as follows:

P CC Sabathia
P Adam Wainwright
P Brett Anderson
P Hiroki Kuroda
P Bronson Arroyo
P Andy Pettite
RP Brian Wilson
RP Trevor Hoffman
RP Neftali Feliz
BENCH
P Cliff Lee (15 Day DL)
P Ted Lilly (15 Day DL)

Should I accept the trade?

I think you're paying too-high a price.

Is this a keeper/dynasty.

I happen to be very high on Wainwright and he has been lights out so far. Also if you moved Wainwright, I don't like your pitching that much especially if this isnt a deep league. (I know you have Lee on the DL)

What does the rest of your lineup look like?

Frightening to give up Wainwright, but Dempster can solidfy the middle of your rotation while Lee is out. You'll have Sabathia, Lee, Dempster, Kuroda, and Anderson that is very good there. You can always matchup the back end of your starters with weekly 2SP or daily matchups.

Lind is the most valuable piece in this deal by a hair over Wainwright.

Tell you the truth though, McCutchen is no slouch himself. I can see him being the next Carl Crawford. I think I'll pas on this simply because in my book there isn't a huge dropoff on McCutchen and Lind.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking I probablt won't do it, but in answer to your question, Kimbo, the rest of my lineup looks like this - my pitchers are listed in an earlier post:

C Ryan Doumit
1st Miguel Cabrera
2nd Dustin Pedroia
SS Jason Bartlett
3rd David Wright
2nd/SS Ben Zobrist
1st/3rd Michael Young
OF Carlos Lee
OF Shane Victorino
OF Andrew McCutchen
OF Rajai Davis
OF Chris Coghlan
UTIL Chipper Jones
BENCH
OF Conor Jackson

Does that change things?
