Use #3 waiver on Markakis or Dunn? WHIR!

Postby money » Mon Apr 12, 2010 11:09 pm

I'm in an 8 team yahoo head to head league with standard scoring. Today one manager dropped both Nick Markakis and Adam Dunn and it got me wondering if I should use my #3 waiver on either of them?

My team:

C: Victor Martinez
1B: Adrian Gonzalez
2B: Dan Uggla
SS: Hanley Ramirez (keeper)
3B: Alex Rodriguez (keeper)
OF: Matt Kemp
OF: Nelson Cruz
OF: Manny Ramirez
Util: Justin Morneau

bench:
Jose Reyes (got him late and this is a keeper league)
Josh Hamilton
Rajai Davis (just grabbed him off FA to help with SB)

SP: Matt Garza
SP: Chad Billingsley
RP: Jonathon Broxton
RP: Francicsco Rodriguez
P: Jon Rauch
P: Chris Perez (He will be cut soon for Chad Qualls, or a SP-Happ, CJ Wilson, Liriano, Hughes, Geo)
P: Max Scherzer

Bench:
Carlos Zambrano
James Shields
Shawn Marcum (might cut him for a SP too)

DL: Cliff Lee
DL: Brandon Webb

So does my team look like it could use either Markakis or Dunn? If so, which offensive player should I cut from my team? Davis? Also do you think any of those pitching moves would be good?

Thanks for your help and be sure to leave a link and I'll help you too!

I'd definitely go for one of those 2 guys...and maybe even both of 'em. Dropping davis is the way to go...

With both guys you pretty much know what you're getting. Dunn around 40 HRs and a relatively low AVG, but a solid OBP. Markakis you get a .300 hitter, with about 20 HRs. Neither guy will really get you SBs however. So if you really need the SB i'd say stick with Rajai, because in my opinion HRam is your only big SB threat, with Kemp and Cruz sprinkling a few here and there you may need Rajai later down the stretch if you find yourself slacking in SBs.

Looks like your lineup is heavy loaded already. Mark lacks in power when compared to Dunn but might give you the elusive SBs to help you where it's lacking, and so can that OF w/ Cruz and Kemp.

Perez for Qualls.
Zambrano for either of them. Put in claims for both.

Do you think one them is better than the other? I'm having a hard time deciding on which one I want to have my first claim put in for. At first I thought Markakis, now I'm leaning towards Dunn. I'm just not sure.

Yeah the same owner dropped both of those guys too. The guy who has Utley said that's one of his players he will not trade. The other two being Halliday and Greinke. Who would you pick though if you had to choose Markakis or Dunn and had my team?
