Guy drops Teixeira, Hamilton, Pence, Bruce

Postby Neato Torpedo » Fri Apr 09, 2010 8:23 pm

I'm in two leagues with a friend of a friend who's developing a habit of eviscerating his team on a whim. He has no idea what he's doing and he doesn't really care. I'm commissioner in the league where he dropped Hamilton, Bruce, and Pence, and I'm talking to the commissioner in the league where he dropped Teixeira and Hamilton (money league :-/ ). I'm strongly considering locking the guy's team if he continues to do this kind of stuff. It's a semi-serious fraternity league where we just recruited him for filler purposes (and ended up with 13 teams anyway). I'm planning to contact him to see if I can get him to take the league more seriously, but if he continues to show that he doesn't know or care then I think I should go ahead and lock his team.

So, lock? y/n

I had a similar situation in a league once. The commish locked the team then did a snake supplemental draft based on WW priority

At the very least the players he dropped should be put back on his team and his team locked until something can be agreed on.

Just put the players back on his team and then lock it. Those players are on his team for the rest of the year and everyone else plays without them. It's no different than most leagues where people don't trade.

But people have the right to ruin their team by being stupid; they don't have the right to ruin the league, especially when they just don't care about it.
0-3 to 4-3. Worst choke in the history of baseball. Enough said.

Now your problem here is that its a week into the season, and the team in last may not necessarily be deserving of the first pick in the draft, they could just be off to a slow start, however something needs to be done, especially in that money league. At the very least the players he dropped should be put back on his team and his team locked.

I'm not the commissioner in the money league (the one where the guy dropped Teixeira), and at this point in time he's allowing it to go through, so it sort of is a supplemental snake draft already. :-b

Well put. There's a guy in my non-money league who's also pretty much completely new to baseball but unlike the Teixeira-dropper, he's making a conscious effort to educate himself and I'm proud of him for that.

Oh, also, he doesn't know who Mark Teixeira is. I rest my case.

I think that you need to put the players back on the team, lock the team, and then find a new owner for the team ASAP. Some people will complain about you doing so, and not letting people manage their own teams. You need to stay the course, and defend yourself with some sort of point based on "integrity of the league".

On the supplemental draft idea, this should absolutely never be done. Even if it weren't one week into the season and the best and worst teams were more established, a supplemental draft is never fair. The team that would be in last place does not deserve the opportunity to acquire Mark Teixeira. Poor performance should not be rewarded with a first round talent. Fantasy baseball is a competition, and one where all teams had a chance to be competitive from the beginning. You should give everyone a chance. Your owners already had their chance to be competitive, and if they did not fare well with that chance, there is no reason they should be given a helping hand to become competitive.

I see your point.....and I actually went back to the league since it was a few years ago and looked and the supplemental draft was done by WW priority. The commish did it though as if it were a draft so that it was organized and fair, rather then everyone just trying to claim players all at once.

It's an alternative to just locking the team. It sucks to just take 25 players or so and just take them right out of the league.

How would I find a new owner? I know you can have co-managers on Yahoo, but the invite has to be sent out by the current manager (and he's pissed that I locked his team) and I can't lock the team for one manager and unlock it for another. At least as far as I know. Also, I agree with your point on the supplemental draft. It's why I don't play in AL/NL-Only leagues; I don't like how you can get guys like Teixeira or Holliday handed to you midseason just by having the last draft pick and holding on to your waiver all season.

Also, for the record, I'm a hardline socialist and I think the healthcare bill is just another capitalist ruse to steal our money so insurance companies can reap more profit at our expense. But that's a story for another day. :-D
