Any of these OF worth it? WHIR

Postby sadlyajetsfan » Fri Apr 09, 2010 5:07 pm

Another team is looking to get rid of one of his OF for some pitching. He has Ellsbury, Ethier, Adam Jones, Magglio Ordonez, Damon, Bourn, Coghlan. I was thinking Ethier would be a solid OF to target since he has been off to a slow start and should put up some good power numbers. I think he wants to do a 1 for 1. My OF isn't bad so I don't want to give away anything too crazy, but I'm not sure I would be able to get a trade off with him for anyone except for Carpenter or Hamels in a 1 for 1. I know he is hurting in SP and RP so I could try sending him one of my other pitchers along with a closer for Ethier. I'm never too worried with closers since they change so often. What do you guys think?

I definitely like Ethier, I'd target him, unless you really need Ellsbury's steals.

But I also like Carpenter and Hamels and wouldn't be in a rush to trade away either of them. If pressed, I'd keep Hamels and move Carpenter based on age and injury history.

But I think your last idea is best -- try going with a lower rated pitcher and a closer and see if he'll go for it. If he won't, then you can give some ground and offer Carpenter and see if he'll sweeten the deal for you (maybe a 2 for 2 where you win a little on the additional players thrown in?).

You might be able to get Ethier a tad on the cheap side because of his ankle and knee problems early on. I'd try Garza for Ethier.

Thanks, sent that over to him. I don't think I want to give up Carpenter or Hamels for him unless I get a bit more in return.

Meh.. I love Ethier, but your outfield does look solid. The worst guys are Pierre and Rasmus, and both have some nice upside. I'm reluctant to part with a good pitcher for a batter when I've got some promising upside batters already. Do you think he'd accept the trade if you dealt him riskier guys, like Ervin, Liriano, or Slowey?

Your WHIR is currently a 1.57. I'd slow it down, regroup and post this elsewhere.

I know he is interested in Slowey. I don't think he would go for just him. I could try Slowey/Mike Gonzalez since he needs a closer too. Would love to have that head case off my team :-b

If you can pull that off, I like the deal for you. You might have an OF glut though, especially if Rasmus and Pierre keep doing well.
