This league has weekly lineups and only starts 2 RP's. I want to cut one and pick up another SP or possibly use the empty slot to rotate 2-start pitchers (It's a H2H points league). I want to cut Valverde, the Tigers look hopeless this season. Hoffman may be old but he has never really had a serious injury and still looks solid and Tampa should win plenty of games this season and with the AL East being an offensively potent division a lot of those games should be close providing ample save chances. There are usually a few closer options in the FA pool, so I'm not overly worried about a backup if something happens to one of the closers I keep. Who would you cut, Valverde, Hoffman or Soriano?

How many teams in the league? No way for you to trade one to a team hurting for an RP? I'd say the 3 are all pretty close, so if any of them are dealable, I'd make a move that way. They all have to be better than the crap on the WW (unless it's a 6-8 team league).

It's only 10 teams. No one would really trade for one when closers are available for free. Right now I could pick up Morales and/or Street, Madson and/or Lidge, Dotel, Mike Gonzalez, Jason Frasor, Lindstrom, Capps, or Chris Perez.
Fair enough. As I said before, I have all 3 of those guys in a close pack. I completely disagree that Soriano is 3rd "by a lot." TB will compete this year, and Soriano should have a great k/9. I prefer closers that can K, so my least favourite of the three (though the most proven) is Hoffman. That said, I'd never say he was the worst "by a lot."

Well I appreciate the responses. I was about to give up on this site when my last three previous threads got no response. I'm starting to think it doesn't really matter which one I cut, they all seem pretty close in value. I'm trying to base my opinion simply on who will get the most saves (or save chances). Off topic, do I at least get props for playing Wells over Abreu? lol
If it helps at all, this is the scoring for pitchers in this league.
Scoring for Pitching Categories BBI - Walks Issued (Pitchers) -1 point ER - Earned Runs -1 point HA - Hits Allowed -1 point HB - Hit Batsmen -1 point INN - Innings 3 points K - Strikeouts (Pitcher) .5 points L - Losses -5 points QS - Quality Starts 3 points S - Saves 7 points W - Wins 7 points

You sure do - Wells is a notoriously great April performer and he's proving it again this year.
I'd just flip a three-headed coin to figure out who to drop. All 3 are solid, and arguments can (and have) been made for all 3.

A career 75% save % isn't good. He is a risky closer. Much riskier then Valverde or Hoffman.
