Trading Ryan Braun? (WHIR)

Postby Airborne24 » Wed Apr 07, 2010 1:56 pm

With Ryan Braun hitting 3rd in the lineup behind OBP laggards Weeks and Gomez, I'm looking to deal him before he finishes the year hitting .330 with 40HRs but only 50 RBI...

Would you do this deal?

Definitely. The question is could you actually get that trade?

ARod and Lee seem like a lot of reliable, top tier talent for Braun and Sandy.

Pull the trigger on that quickly.

Ok, first things first, I don't ever like doing this especially in the DTKW forum, but I'm sorry fershizzle, but thats terrible advice.

How are you going to say that its an absolute steal to trade 2 top notch bats at their respected positions for one and an arm? First off Cliff's value has dropped for 2 reasons. One you would lose a month's worth of his stats with his DL stint and the possible suspention. Two, more so, everyone is looking at Felix's stats last year and saying 'Cliff can do that', well I call BS! For Cliff to replicate what Felix did last year Lee would have to replicate his 2008 CY Young winning year, thats not going to happen. Don't get me wrong hes an above average arm, but not of the value of what you would be giving up.

I live and die by the rule that when trading for arms unless your getting an absolue steal (Lincy type, instead of Lee) that you never trade big bats for arms. Also looking at your staff how would this trade benefit you more? You already have a fairly strong staff for a 12 teamer, CC is a stud, Peavy is primed for a bounce back year, Wandy is a solid #2, then you finish it out with a slew of high upside guys like Davis, Latos and Norris.

Then you look at your bats, yes Arod would be sweet to get, but really Pablo is solid as your 3B, and if you get rid of Braun your OF goes from solid and balanced to BIG time question marks. Jones/Borbon/Heyward/Delmon, wow your talking about 4 guys that are all very young, 2 in 'rookie' seasons and the other 2 are yet to put together a full season of being worthy to carry a fantasy OF. If you do this deal you will harm your roster WAY more then helping it, and honestly Braun batting in 50? Come on, get serious. Its 2 days into the season and your talking about trading away your best bat and actually 2nd best bat. Not a CHANCE I do this deal.

Thank you, that was really helpful and actually did dissuade me from this one. I was being sarcastic about Braun only batting in 50, but I am concerned about the guys in front of him ever getting on base.
