Take the risk and start Cueto tonight vs. St. Louis? Or keep him on the bench?

Advice please....100% WHIR

I'm weighing the same options, but I think I'm going to sit him. Pujols and Rasmus seem to be firing out of the gate and I have to imagine Holliday won't be too far behind. I drafted him for a bounce-back, but I'm not sure this is where it will start for him.

When it really came down to it, the only good reason I could find to start him was general "start of baseball" excitment and still being in the euphoric state that comes after a draft. It's a dangerous place to be, so I reeled it in and put him on the bench. Going to make him prove something to me first.

Well, I'm losing W K and ERA h2h right now, so what the hell, I'm starting him. Probably wouldn't in roto

I've got him starting. He's a solid enough pitcher, in my opinion, to be useful for a few Ks and a reasonable WHIP, even if he's facing Pujols and company. I'm going to assume that it's not a H2H league; there should be no question about putting your SP in the lineup in that format, where potential Ws and Ks are even more valuable short-term.

At first blush his career line vs. StL is atrocious...

22 innings, 12 K, 6.14 ERA and 1.73 WHIP, .295 BAA

But if you just look at how he did last year vs StL...

15 innings, 8 K, 1.76 ERA, 1.04 WHIP .228 BAA

In H2H, you might want to be more cautious. But in Roto you should take the plunge ;-D

either way I think I start him. it's early in the week & season, so if he does let up a few runs, then I'm sure you can make it up by Sunday (if H2H) and if roto, then definitely start him.

You'll be way more upset if he throws a gem and he's on your bench IMO.

St. Louis has a good lineup, but if he can get past the 3,4,5 hitters (and rasmus is still very questionable) then the rest of the lineup is quite weak. A few easy outs there in Ryan and the pitcher spot. I expect Cueto to have a good game although I'd be surprised if he got the win since he's facing Wainwright.

Help with mine please:
