No joke: Rickie Weeks will be #1 2B this year

Postby Bosy Billups » Tue Apr 06, 2010 10:00 pm

He is the breakout I think. He was figuring it out before he got hurt last year and was on pace 20+/20+. This year, SHOULD he stay healthy (yes, a big SHOULD), I think he can put up numbers similar, if not better than UTLEY.

There is no doubting the pedigree and talent. It's health.

The only thing that could move him down a notch from Utley is that he hits leadoff, so will have limited RBI opportunities. Also, don't think he walks as much.

But, I think this is the year of Weeks. He will make good, being the #2 pick in the draft.

A scout once said, on record, after the draft: "Everyone is focused on BJ Upton. But it's Rickie Weeks who is the superstar of the class."

Stay healthy Rickie.

Just to summarize your thought. Ricky Weeks, if healthy, will put up the same or better numbers than Utley. Am I saying that right?

I wasn't able to nab Weeks in any leagues. He was taken before I was able to comfortably draft him. Burned me too many times.

Every year he's had over 400 AB he has posted about a .240 average, that's quite a ways off from Utley. I don't see him touching Utley in any category, no way he has 100 or so rbis and more than 25 HR. Also that's a huge IF he stays healthy, pretty bold statement.

Not necessarily the same numbers, but he can produce elite numbers, which could make him rank with the most valuable. He has Braun, Fielder who can knock him in. Himself, he has power and speed combo. Rickie is no slouch. He's matured as a batter.

Utley is obviously on a different level. He has probably one of the most potent lineups to hit in. And a hitters park. So, it's still Utley.

However, I think Rickie has the chance to really shock the world and be competitive with the top 2Bmen from a fantasy standpoint. Not to mention, he's 27 years old. Utley is a bit older and is peaking... next stop will be decline.

Maybe I should have compared him to Kinsler. But, I believe in Rickie to do more than that!

It's very unlikely to happen.

BUT

He has the potential to go 30/30.

This conversation is like saying if Kinsler can stay healthy he can be a 40/40 guy.

Twins fan.

But, also a Weeks fan.

We'll see. "They" always come out of nowhere, when they have their breakout year.

He stares at me all the time from the top of our waiver wire. I got Brandon Phillips instead so I figure 2B will be a Dusty-ruined black hole. I got Ian Desmond for a buck and figure maybe he'll pan out somehow. Still, Rickie Weeks' promise sitting there, just waiting to be plucked like a chicken...*cluck cluck*
