Need help at SS and 2B!

Postby Rabid58 » Mon Apr 05, 2010 7:08 pm

Ok so i took the risk and got Reyes this year. He's on the DL and i'm thinking of dropping him or trading him. I currently have Furcal starting at SS for me which doesn't really cut it. Also i have Dan Uggla at 2B. I think i maybe able to do better then that. My team currently looks like this:

C: Jorge Posada
1B: Ryan Howard
2B: Dan Uggla
3B: A-Rod
SS: Rafael Furcal
OF: Carl Crawford
OF: Matt Kemp
OF: Jacoby Ellsbury
UT: Andrew McCutchen
BN: Jose Reyes
BN: Jose Lopez
BN: Carlos Quentin

SP: Jon Lester
SP: Ubaldo Jimenez
RP: Heath Bell
RP: Jose Valverde
P: John Danks
P: Wandy Rodriguez
BN: Fransisco Cordero
BN: Rich Harden
BN: Randy Wolf

Our scoring is H2H and that stats are
Batters Stat Categories: Runs (R), Hits (H), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Walks (BB), Total Bases (TB), Batting Average (AVG)
Pitchers Stat Categories: Wins (W), Losses (L), Saves (SV), Walks (BB), Strikeouts (K), Holds (HLD), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP)

I'm not sure but it looks like bench players are also involved in the scoring. :P idk if thats normal or not. It's my first year and i didn't research that much. Any ideas on trades or pick ups i could look for? Ellsbury pissed me off going 0/5 and i have Carlos Quentin to fill in if i can package Ellsbury with someone for a decent SS or 2B. Any other weaknesses you see? Thanks for the help in advance!

You have a really solid team, and I'm pretty sure your bench players aren't contributing to your stats, unless you play on some strange service provider. Don't drop Reyes, just wait out his injury. If you can't DL him, put him on your bench. I'd personally ship out one of your outfielders for an ace so you can free up some space to play Quentin every day. That would make your team pretty beastly... you could probably put auto-pilot on for the rest of the season, lol.

Well i'm not sure cause when i look at the match up page on Yahoo it shows under the Score Summary that my opponent has 8 Runs but one of those came from a benched player? Maybe it just shows that i'm not sure. But which outfielder would you get rid of? Ellsbury or McCutchen? And who or what position should i try to get for them? Sorry i'm newer to this but i think i'm doing pretty good for my first team/year.

With Reyes coming back, I think you can sacrifice either Crawford or Ellsbury. Both should fetch you a studly ace in return. Don't settle for anything less than a Top-10 SP, and I'd be targeting top-5. The match-up page on Yahoo just reflects the total from your entire team in a week. Yesterday was Sox vs. Yankees, your opponent probably just benched a Red Sox or Yankee player today to play someone else on his bench instead. Trust me, if you're playing on yahoo, player on your bench = not contributing stats.

K haha i don't feel like thats a fair trade though and will feel like an idiot for offering but i will try Ellsbury and Jose Lopez for Roy Halladay. I doubt it will go through but it's worth a try. I also just proposed Crawford and Lopez for Felix Hernandez. I will see what happens and report back once i know. Any other suggestions or pitchers i may want to go after? Thanks for all the help thejusman1!

I'd rather have the ace over the speed guy as well, but just going off ADP, that's about the equivalent SP you should be able to net back. You might have to settle for someone in the 6-10 range though, like an Ubaldo, Cliff Lee, Wainwright, Gallardo, or Verlander. Always aim high at first though ;-D

Definitely don't trade Ellsbury because he went 0-5 today. It's a marathon not a sprint!

Yeah neither of the trades were accepted so i'm looking again. I tried Crawford/Ellsbury with Lopez for Gallardo and i will see what that does!
