It is just because Cincy is playing against Chris Carpenter. Carpenter owned them in 3 starts last year pitching to a combined 1.29 ERA in the 3 starts.

Dickerson and Votto are the only guys who hit him last year. Dickerson was 5-10 off Carp so that is why he got the start.

Bah, we don't need this kind of *rationality* around here, its OPENING DAY!!! And I'm quite convinced Stubbs would have gone 5/5, with 5 HR AND 3 stolen bases.

Carp eats about 80% of the players in the league alive when healthy. Stubbs earned the opening day start, he should be out there.

Seriously, trying to find logic in Dusty's decisions will drive you crazy so it is better to just sit back and expect the unexpected.
