here's a newsflash but Kemp isn't the best hitter in the Dodgers lineup and probably not the 2nd best.

obviously if we're talking long-term, manny is the better hitter. but do you really think manny can hit and steal at his age, the way kemp can right now? come on. and dont tell me ethier is a better hitter than kemp (assuming he was ur 2nd best). a kemp/manny/ethier lineup makes a ton more sense, but i can buy the walk arguement, maybe that is torre's thinking. but kemp still had an impressive .352 OBP last yr and improved his bb's and reduced his SO's significantly last yr. he got himself into way too many 0-2 counts last yr, so maybe not seeing enough pitches is another reason...crap maybe im making your arguement for you lol.

also, figured blake, dewitt, padilla was irrelevant to this convo. ;-D

and neato....nope, torre is giving kemp the shaft. :-b

makes no sense?! does this piss anyone else off like it does to me?!

Is there any reason other than SB's for Kemp to Ethier and Manny down the lineup? here's a newsflash but Kemp isn't the best hitter in the Dodgers lineup and probably not the 2nd best.

Having him in the 5th spot takes advantage of his power and minimizes the effect of his low-ish BB rate. The only part that doesn't make sense is Martin in the 2 spot unless the coaching staff saw the 2008 version in camp. Then he's ideal in the 2 spot.

2009:
Kemp .367 wOBA
Either: .370 wOBA
Ramirez: .396 wOBA

Kemp is either the third or second best hitter in the Dodger lineup. So I don't think it is insane to bat him 5th.

I think he fits well in the 5 spot. He might even get more chances to run there than in the 2 hole because the lineup after 5th isn't all that great.

The point is that the Dodgers have their 3 best hitters in he 3, 4 and 5 spots. Unless your fantasy team is a consideration it's probably the best order they could pick unless they bumped this threesome up to the 2, 3 and 4 spots. But russell martin in his worst season ever had the same OBP as kemp did last year. I really haven't seen a relevant argument about why Kemp shouldn't be in the 5th spot.

Nothing quite like opening day overreactions now is there :-° I can't wait for 327038219420138: Should I trade every player on my roster for Garrett Jones WHIR; threads tomorrow.

Also is there something I'm missing, because I'd expect Kemp to be given the green light more often hitting in front of a bunch of patsies at the end of the Dodgers lineup as opposed to in front of Manny and/or Ethier. Oh well, common sense is overrated.
