The decline of Manny Ramirez

I avoided Manny like the plague in my league this year. Was I right to do so, or does anyone see a return to form?

I'd say somewhere in the middle. He may never be the masher that he was, but like his recent t-shirt said, "I got 99 problems, but my swing ain't one." He's been quiet all spring and who knows, maybe it's because he's nervous about how he'll do without PEDs (I doubt it). Maybe it's because he's trying to concentrate to smack the living hell out of the ball this year (probably this). He's in a contract year too I think, the dude loves his cash. There's nothing like a motivated Manny.

I'd say he's a pretty safe bet for .300 30 hrs and 100 rbi batting cleanup in the Dodgers lineup.

I'd say he's a pretty safe bet for .300 30 hrs and 100 rbi batting cleanup in the Dodgers lineup.

Last year he hit .290 with 19 HRs, I don't see reason to believe he will be healthy all year. I think it's much "safer" to project him at about 400 ABs, .290 with 20 HRs and 85 RBIs. With some upside for more but his floor is also a little lower than that.

I'm expecting 25 HR, 90 RBI and .300 BA but the chance he completly breaks down is pretty high IMO.

you're right - i should have said that those numbers were assuming a full year of health. which may and may not happen. i do think 400 abs is a bit pessimistic though. he didnt miss any time last year with injuries if i remember correctly.

2009 was the third lowest full-season Isolated Power of his long career, and he does turn 38 this year.
Of course I'd have him for the right price, but he is becoming DO NOT WANT.
