I just been offered Hunter Pence for Colby Rasmus straight up
I like Rasmus' potential this year after a terrific spring but will Pence outperform Rasmus? Should I agree to this trade?
My Lineup:
C: Ryan Doumit 1B: Albert Pujols 2B: Ian Kinsler (DL), Martin Prado 3B: Adrian Beltre SS: Stephen Drew OF: Justin Upton, BJ Upton, Andre Either Util: Colby Rasmus Bn: Buster Posey
Given your lineup I think I would do this for a couple reasons.
1. Pence is proven, you know what your going to get out of him, Rasmus is not and is just an upside guy. If Rasmus flops you have to go WW hunting because you don't have a backup plan for your UTIL slot with only Posey on your bench
2. Both are at least 20/10 threats, Pence has went yard 25 times back2back and stole double digit bags 3 years running. Also I just see Pence hitting for a much better average in the range of .280-.290, that should be about 30-40 points higher then what Colby will muster.
3. Better balance out of Pence, I see .295/85/25/80/15 from Pence and .267/85/20/65-70/10-13 out of Rasmus.
Right now I think with your lineup (with Kinsler down, Doumit and Beltre coming back from injured years, Drew still on the rise and BJ's struggles) that you need to take more caution with a player like Pence, rather then what could be's with Rasmus.
Thanks for the nice reply. Your points were very informative and made sense in my situation. All my bench spots are being occupied by my pitching staff. I'm leaning towards accepting the trade after that reply. Thank you!
I made this deal late sunday night, and i know its only one game but did i make a mistake in giving up Rasmus for Pence?? After Rasmus' performance yesterday, I'm having some doubts now.

I don't think you made a mistake. You went with consistency. There is a chance that Rasmus is going to have a huge year hitting with Pujols and Holliday running around the bases in front of him, but don't get too upset over 1 day
There is a chance Rasmus has a big year, absolutely. But I really see his "breakout" year being no better than what you KNOW you're getting with Pence. Going with a proven commodity is the right move, could Rasmus end up having a better year? Sure, but it would only be marginally better, where he is just as likely to flop and have a MUCH worse year than Pence.
