I would guarantee that he is not, and bet you any amount of money on said proclamation.

I caught the 6th inning and thought he looked pretty sharp? The K-zone replay of Matsui's AB he was just pounding the zone against a good CT%age hitter and looked like he had very nice command going on, very precise location during that AB.

He was undrafted in my deep H2H keeper league, the one where, last year, I had Gio with 22nd round equivalence. I let him go to keep Scherzer. Thanks to this thread being posted right after my draft I picked him up and look to start him in week 2.

In the Yahoo league I commish I picked yesterday him up after dropping Motte. I started him! ;-D

And like a McDonalds happy meal, I'm lovin' it!

I like Gio but I owned him last year. I wasn't loving it. Such a tease. I also had Holland on the same team.

Looks like more of the same from 2009. Man, he's tough to watch when he loses confidence/control, constantly hitting outside the zone. Couple of painful innings last night, but he had other innings where he still looked good. Nothing like the 1st game though where he pounded the strikezone...and I guess that's the story of Gio...one good start, one not so good.

I'm actually not discouraged at all by his start against Seattle.
He got into deep trouble in the 2nd, and somehow weaseled out of it, then went on a fantastical journey in the 5th, but the 5th was only singles and walks.

Bottom 5th: Seattle
- J. Wilson grounded bunt out to catcher
- I. Suzuki singled
- C. Figgins walked, I. Suzuki to second
- F. Gutierrez walked, I. Suzuki to third, C. Figgins to second
- J. Lopez fouled out to shortstop
- M. Bradley singled to shallow left, I. Suzuki and C. Figgins scored, F. Gutierrez to second
- C. Gaudin relieved G. Gonzalez

He's not really getting hit hard, and he's getting his share of groundballs and Ks.
This is still a growth season for him really (he's only 24 and had 133 innings under his belt before this season) , so it shouldn't really be a shock if he walks a few now and again. ;-D

he got flustered once suzuki got on base and started nibbling to both figgins and gutierrez. it wasn't very pretty to watch. he probably should have been going right after those hitters like he had been in the previous innings, but he didn't.

I'm not sure if anyone else saw this but Ichiro wasn't the only one distracting him last night. From Susan Slusser http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/ath ... y_id=61338: "Many people asked what the initials "VM" were on Gio Gonzalez's hat tonight, and he told us after the game that his girlfriend, Valerie Mathias, was in a car accident with her family on Saturday night and she remains in a San Diego hospital with a serious head injury."
