A bunch of friends and I are doing our first fantasy league ever.
Here's who I drafted.
10 teams, AL only
C- Javy Lopez
1B - Mike Sweeney
2B - Jerry Hairston Jr.
3B - Eric Chavez
SS - Jose Valentin
OF - Vladimir Guerrero
OF - Magglio Ordonez
OF - Jose Guillen
UTIL - Jermaine Dye
Bench - Larry Bigbie, Erubiel Durazo, Miguel Olivo, Pokey Reese
SP - Derek Lowe
SP - Kyle Lohse
SP - Darrell May
SP - Mark Hendrickson
SP - Cliff Lee
RP - Arthur Rhodes
RP - Mike Macdougal
RP - Fernando Rodney
SP/RP - Carlos Silva
SP/RP - Eric DuBose
RP - Erasmo Ramirez
BN - Jon Lieber
I know my pitching is a little weak, but in AL only leagues the arm supply is thin. I think I'm okay in the saves department with Rhodes, Macdougal and Rodney, and Silva and Lieber could surprise with decent years. I'm trying to ship out Jose Guillen for Contreras or Vasquez, but I don't know if they'll bite. I also want to try to exploit someone's worries about Christian Guzman and get him instead of Jose Valentin, who could kill my team BA.
My questions are: How should I try to deal Javy for pitching? I'd want to package deal him with a pitcher for someone like Matthew LeCroy and a better pitcher. Suggestions?
Is it worth actually dealing Magglio or Vladimir for pitching? Vlad for Bartolo? Having Derek Lowe as my first starter is an uncomfortable position, but he'll have a good year pitching in the third (or fourth - Francona is talking about pitching Wakefield between Pedro and Schilling to further confuse hitters) slot with a better 2B behind him.
Comments on my ideas and further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thx.
