Wow HUge Lincecum and Texeira Trade Here!!!

Postby rasto21585 » Sat Apr 03, 2010 1:55 am

I was just offered tim lincecum and mark texeira for my felix hernandez brett anderson andrew mccutchen and jason heyward. On paper this seems like an awesome deal for me but should risk losing the best prospect out there? What do I do?

Unless you think adding Tex gives you a legit chance to win your league this year and next year then I'd probably pass. Linecum is fantasic, but he's not that huge an upgrade over F-Her when we're talking about anchoring a rotation (I rank them 1-2). I also think your rotation is a little thin, and trading 2-1 for Linecum only makes that more accute, even though he's the better pitcher. Really you're talking about sending out McCutchen, Heyward and most of Anderson for a 30 year-old Tex though, and that sounds like a lot in a dynasty format.

The other side is the idea that you can flip Tex for some prospects afterwards. Adding Linecum is a great move, and if You think you can add a couple of prospects back in for Tex in another trade then things look better for long term.

In short, I'd probably pass, but the deal does have potential and I wouldn't ride a guy too hard for accepting, provided he had a plan when doing so.

I think I pull the trigger on this one. I know what you are concerned about, that Heyward comes up and is the next Ryan Braun and that McCutchen......well you get the idea.

However, if you break it up into two smaller trades I would still do.

Lincecum - Felix/Anderson - Lincecum is a beefcake no way around it with 2 Cy Youngs. He is also a legitimate top 12 pick. I think the kick in of Anderson is worth the upgrade form Felix to Lincecum. Not to mention Lincecum is only going to be 26 this year, he has a huge future in ahead of him in your dynasty.

Teixeira - MCCutch/Heyward - PLenty of potential there but Teixeira is a top 10 pick. Heyward has no major league experience and McCutchen has 400 Ab's. For every sure fire stud prospect that comes up here and performs, there are probably 10 that either unerwhelm or it takes a few years to reach there potential. I think sometimes its better to go with the sure thing.

I should note that I am of the mindset that in dynasty leagues or even deep keepers there are managers too concerned with trying to grab all the prospects and "winning next year", when they could be focusing on this year.
