Here are my Pitchers
SP: Zach Greinke, Scott Baker, Matt Garza, Roy Oswalt, Wandy Rodriguez, Tom Gorzellany, Kyle Lohse, Chris Young, RP: Joakim Soria, Matt Thornton, Mike S. Adams, Luke Gregerson, LaTroy Hawkins, Brandon Lyon, Leo Nunez, George Sherrill, Michael Wuertz
We can start any combination of 7 pitchers, weekly changes, not daily
Greinke, Oswalt, and Baker all have 2 starts, assuming Oswalt makes his on the 5th, they all have 2 starts in the period 4-4 to 4-11,
My question is, do I go with another starter, or do I put in some relief guys who might get holds, at 12 points a hold, that is huge I think, but I don't really know how often holds are issued, are they regular etc?
I would start, Soria, Thornton, Sherrill, and Gregerson?
Holds are simply if a pitcher "holds" the lead he gets a hold. Simple as that. There are many relievers that get holds but there are "elite" guys in that stat each year.
Click on the holds tab link and it will order them from most to least in 2009. As you can see Affeldt was tops with 33 in 2009. But there are many guys who get them. Gregerson had 27 holds last year (tied for 2nd in the league with 3 other guys) so I would say he is a must start weekly because of that. Hawkins had 19 holds last year. And remember, all relievers can get wins too.
I would go with Grienke, Baker, Oswalt, Soria (every week with him), Nunez (every week with him that he is the closer there), Gregerson (every week with him). Now you still have one opening. Then I would go with Wandy because I like him a lot. If you don't like Wandy's matchup then go with Lohse if he is pitching well and you like his matchup. If you don't like either player in matchups that week plug in a Mike Adams and then you have both SD top setup men going which maximizes your chances of getting any holds that week in SD because you have their top two set up men.
Greinke, Oswalt, Baker, Garza, Soaria, Nunez, Gregerson, though I am thinking about swapping Nunez out for Sherrill, only because Nunez is playing NYM which is meh, but then LA, and I think LA is better than FLA, but that could very well be my LA bias showing itself again,
