keeper pitcher, Wainwright or Beckett? ..WHIR

Postby SpecialFNK » Fri Apr 02, 2010 6:06 pm

this is my first year taking over a team in a keeper league. just found out the players i have to choose from today and i have to make a decision tonight before the draft tomorrow.
yahoo, 15 team, 5x5, roto,
i have to pick 3 keepers and 1 must be a pitcher.
these are the players i have to pick from..

Elvis Andrus
Mark DeRosa
Jacoby Ellsbury
Adrian Gonzalez
Adam Jones
Evan Longoria
Felipe Lopez
Kendry Morales
Manny Ramirez
Luke Scott
Jason Varitek

Josh Beckett
Jonathan Broxton
Clay Buchholz
LaTroy Hawkins
Daisuke Matsuzaka
Kevin Millwood
Joe Nelson
Mike Pelfrey
Mariano Rivera
Adam Wainwright
Jordan Zimmermann

the 2 offensive players are obvious in Adrian Gonzalez and Evan Longoria.
i assume for the pitcher im picking between Josh Beckett and Adam Wainwright. despite the numbers i find it hard to pick Wainwright. i think he is a risk with his IP jump from 2008 to 2009.
if i do pick Wainwright i imagine i could trade him, but would Beckett be a better choice for a keeper?

leave a link, WHIR

Tough thats really close, and I see what your saying. But I really think Wainwright is the pick to go with. Hes younger, will carry more trade value in a keeper league due to age and should end up with about the same W and K numbers as Beckett with better ratios. Also not AS concerned with the IP jump because he topped 200IP in 2007, I would go with Wainwright with confidence... BTW Sweet, Sweet Trio of Keepers...

help me out...

That's tough ... I agree with AGonz and Longoria as your offensive keepers ... and it comes down to Beckett or Wainright for me as well. Wainright is a lot younger, and he killed it last year, I am a very big fan. I think just based on potential and age, You go Wainright here.

Help me out man?

Wainwright for me as well..

Both on winners. Wainwright is younger, will face weaker competition on average (Beckett in the AL EAST)
Etc.

Wainwright for sure, in a keeper and redraft. Beckett's shoulders = balky all the time.

When two guys are this close, age becomes more important. Wainwright is younger...and also has the NL factor. I'd take him.
