Halladay/Fielder trade proposal

Postby dark2025 » Fri Apr 02, 2010 5:53 pm

10 Team 5x5 keeper roto league

So I got this proposed to me recently:

Send Jimmy Rollins
Send Roy Halladay
Receive Prince Fielder
Receive Ryan Theriot
Receive Matt Cain

My roster:
C: Suzuki
1B: Votto, Chris Davis
2B: Cano, Pedroia
3B: Sandoval
SS: Rollins, Stephen Drew
OF: Crawford, Pierre, Cruz, Reimold, Fowler, J. Bruce
P: Halladay, Gallardo, J. Johnson, Jurrjens, Floyd, Oswalt, W. Rodriguez, Shields, Scherzer, Lilly, Hoffman, Franklin

First, should I consider this trade? Fielder would be a massive upgrade over either one of my 1st basemen, but are the guys I'm getting in return worth it? I can try to counter Theriot with an outfielder, since mine is not the team's strong point.

I dont like theriot so maybe he can upgrade the SP and make it a 2 for 2. I def would do a deal where you get fielder back but the pitching side is too far away from the hitting difference

I wouldn't take that... Your giving up too much... Yes Fielder is stud, but Votto will be top 5-6 by years end, I think you are very much undervaluing Votto.

I look at it this way...

Upgrade: Votto to Fielder, Slight...
Downgrade: Rollins to Drew or Theriot, Drew is inconsistant and a who knows candidate, Theriot is good for average, SB and some runs, you loose all of Rollins power numbers...
Downgrade: Halladay to Cain, not even remotely close. Drop from top 3 SP to just barely a top 20 SP.

Sorry but Votto is no slouch and the upgrade you get to Fielder doesn't make up for the loss of Rollins and Halladay... If I were you I would be looking more closely at that OF, maybe look to trade Cano or Pedroia to upgrade that OF a bit.

Help me out...

Fielder is nice but you don't really need him plus you take a step back at SS and SP by losing Rollins and Halladay. Not the trade for you.

I would see what you can get instead of Theriot, Drew is decent enough at SS. But I like the deal, Cain could have a huge year, and Prince instead of Davis is a massive upgrade as you said.

A. Cain is gonna top Halladay? Highly doubt that...

B. Just saw you see it as Prince over Davis, which yes is a HUGE upgrade, but Votto is his true starting 1B...

Votto IS my starting first, but Davis is in my corner infield spot, so Fielder would help there.

Out of his outfielders, he has:
Ellsbury, Werth, B.J Upton, Ethier, Victorino, Cuddyer, and Kubel

Oh, oops, forgot to mention I have 2 guys on the DL too:
Berkman and Beltran

Haha, now I remember why Davis is in my starting lineup...

You could go either way with this deal and be OK. With Drew as your backup SS, getting Theriot is pretty much useless. If you can get a OF instead, I'd pull the trigger to get Prince.

Didnt say Cain would top Halladay, Im saying he can have a very strong year, thereby not crippling your pitching staff, and allowing you to upgrade to Fielder. Sorry you listed two players at 1B, didnt mark one as a bench player, assumed you were starting both. If you mark them BE instead of 1B Id assume they arent starting.

I actually am starting both, 1 at first, and 1 at corner infield.
