Gimme some Holds

Postby zippytrash » Thu Apr 01, 2010 3:44 pm

Does anyone know of a good place to get good info on set-up guys (7th-8th innings)? I'm in a league that counts them, and I want to know who are the buy-low type guys and all I can find is info on closers.

Thanks in advance B-)

My first stop would be the closers thread, here:

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=399540

The first post lists closers and the guys behind them, usually the setup guys.

Some parts of that list our outdated/inccorect. Felipe Paulino is a starter. C.J. Wilson is a starter. Neftali Feliz is likely to become the 8th inning guy for Texas. JJ Putz will be either 3rd in line or equal in opportunites to Matt Thornton. Jeremy Affeldt and Sergio Romo are established setup guys in San Francisco, but Dan Runzler might become the trusted 8th inning guy with his stuff. Esmailin Caridad is looking to do the same behind Marmol for the Cubs. If you have somebody like Neftali Feliz out on your waiver wire, by all means you should pick him up. You want a dominant strikeout type like him.

Also, Michael Wuertz is currently resting with elbow tendinitis, but he had probably the best year out of any setup guy last year striking out 102 in 78.2 innings. A lot of that was throwing his slider, which I think is causing him the elbow problems he's having now. Hopefully he gets over it and gets healthy.
