I was told by others in the league that I robbed him blind, so what am I missing here? Votto for Helton is clearly where I made a huge gain, but last year Lincecum and Cain were very similar in output (beside strikeouts), and well, everybody knows what Kemp has the potential to do with his bat and wheels.
Thanks for all opinions. I will help in return, just post a link.
i like kemp a hair better than lince but if we were drafting and kemp and braun plus the top 4 were gone, i've gone with lince.
i'd look at it as lince +coughlan for kemp and helton (throw in) and then votto vs cain. value-wise, votto is much better so that's where you win. nice trade.
Yeah, you got the better end of the deal. Getting Votto on the side for relatively cheap is too good to pass down. Cain was also lucky last year and Lincecum is far and away, the better ace.
I dealt Kemp prior to our draft in a 17 man keeper league and got:
Got - Alex Rodriguez/1st and 3rd round farm team picks (picks turned into Donovan Tate - who I've since dealt for Brett Wallace and Zachary Wheeler.
Gave - Matt Kemp/Josh Beckett
I think you are getting much better overall value than I did and I think I did pretty good in getting what I got. So yeah you win the deal, but is it a killing as other managers in your league say right now NO, but depending on how things work out with Cain and Votto this year it might end up being that way.
I did a trade 2 years ago when I recieved Prince as a rookie (or coming off rookie season) and I gave Ichiro and Chad Billingsley (who at the time was being tauted as next great Dodger SP) yes he has been real solid but not the stud he was projecting back then. I think that worked out pretty damn good for me.
I love that trade for you. Lincecum is a monster. Cain had a great year last year, but i highly doubt maintain that level. Votto is working his way up being a top-tier 1B, and I really think he's got a lot of improving still to do. And with some of the younger guys in Cincy getting more experience, the bats all around him are going to be producing more support than he's seen while in the big leagues. IMO, Kemp's definitately solid, but a little over-valued in most circles. If your OF can withstand the loss, I'd much rather have Lince and Votto.
10 team H2H, 5x5 standard C: Montero 1B: Votto, LaRoche 2B: Prado 3B: Wright SS: Desmond, Furcal (DL) OF: C. Gonzalez, Werth, Rios, Pagan SP: Lester, F. Hernandez, Carpenter, Oswalt, Lincecum, Hanson, Beckett, Nolasco RP: Wagner, Rodney, Takahashi

Thanks, I agree...my other OF is Elsbury, Adam Jones, and Heyward...plus Fowler and now Coghlan.
You def got the better deal in my opinion. But as in any trade it's a matter of preference. Kemp is one the best players in the league who could easily go 30/30 so if that guy wanted him he did not get robbed at all. Lincy and votto or nice but who knows about coghlan, he could have a soph slump and suck this year.
