DL Dilema (WHIR)

Postby Lsquad » Thu Apr 01, 2010 8:32 am

It looks like at the very least, I'm going to start the season with Street and Martin on the DL, leaving me down a closer and an Catcher. That also means that with Strasburg (and oswalt possibly on the DL) I will have at least 2 of my 3 bench spots taken up by inactive players. I was thinking that I needed at least another SP with stud potential (Santana seems to fit the bill, but Slowey is also really attractive), but that would leave me down an C and a closer. Who would you pick up in this Situation?

My Roster:

10 team 5x5 h2h
C: Martin (potential DL)
1B: Cabrera
2B: Phillips
3B: Wright
SS: H. Ramierez
MIF: Weeks
CIF: Votto
OF: Ellsbury
OF: Sizemore
OF: Hamilton
OF: Quentin
OF: Bruce
UT: C.Davis

BN: Hart, Beltre

P: J. Johnson
P: Baker
P: Billingsley
P: Oswalt
P: Scherzer
P: Kazmir
P: Soria
P: Street (will be DL'd)
P: Qualls

BN: Strasburg (out til june?)

1 DL spot

Best Available Pitchers:
Dotel, Arroyo, Harang, Chapman, Slowey, Cueto, Santana

Hitters: Milledge, Molina, Suzuki, Johnson, Innanetta

Thanks for responding!

This is going to seem a bit much but its a 10 teamer.

Bye bye Martin and pick up Suzuki
Bye bye Hart pick up Cueto

Also is Latos or Matsu available

I'd grab Slowey. I'm assuming your league doesn't use DL slots, so Hart is droppable. Cueto works too, but I like Slowey a little more. (more than Latos or Matsu too)

I wouldn't drop Martin though. His injury recovery is going well and the latest news is that he should be ready to go for the opener.

regardless of wether Matsu Is Matzuzaka or Matusz, they are both owned, as is Latos. As for dropping Hart, I think I need a sixth OF in a daily League with 5 starting OFs, particuarly W/ my guys injury woes last season. Thanks for the Advice though.

And I do have 1 Dl spot, but w/ multiple injured players, they start to take up roster spots, and since Stras is already hogging one of those, that leaves a limited bench.

Thanks for your help with my NL-only question. As for this, I'd definitely grab Slowey. I think he has a lot of potential up there, and should be good for some decent peripherals. I also like the other person's suggestion about getting Suzuki and dropping Martin. This is, of course, assuming that the Molina available is Yadier and not Bengie for some reason.

Is this a keeper league? Otherwise I'm not sure it's worth holding on Strasburg when you have more immediate needs. If you're set on keeping the bench hitters and Starnburg then you may want to wait for the season to start and see how your current crop if guys does. I think you'll regret missing out on Slowey if he goes (and a couple of other guys there as well), but short of Hart or Strasburg you don't have a lot of obvious drop candidates either.

I would grab Slowey. I don't think Martin will be DL'ed after all. Hart will lose playing time for the Brewers but there is talk he may land in Washington. If you want to pick up a closer I would go Dotel. Bottom line DL Street and pick up Slowey. Consider dropping Hart for Dotel.

I agree with the consensus here. Dont' be too scared off by Slowey's overall numbers last year, from what I remember he had two or three really bad starts before going out that jacked up his ERA and WHIP. I think he's a good value at this point for you.

Help if you can:
