i give- Johnny Cueto, Carlos Quentin, Jason Kubel, Geovany Soto i get- Scott Baker, Victor Martinez, Tori Hunter
thoughts? i could get an upgrade at C from Soto to Martinez. i could get an upgrade at SP from Cueto to Baker. i could get an upgrade in the OF with Hunter over Kubel. i like the HR/SB threat from Hunter. maybe Quentin numbers are similar to Martinez? is the upgrade at C/SP worth giving up the players i am?

I like this trade a lot. I think the upgrades at Catcher and starting pitcher are big enough to make it worth while. I had both Martinez and Baker last year and they were pretty consistent. With Ordonez on your bench, you should be fine at the OF position, although that will definitely be the spot you look to upgrade next.
It really comes down to what you believe Cueto/Quentin/Soto and VMart will do this year.
All three of your guys had really down years last year whereas his guy, VMart, had a big bounceback year. So really it comes down to your thoughts, are Cueto/Quentin/Soto going to have bounceback years? I think Quentin and Soto will, not sure about Cueto. Will VMart be able to repeat last years numbers? I don't think so, although I do think he'll be very good again.
I think the gap between Soto and VMart will closer than many think, but you'd still be upgrading there clearly.
I'm not sure of the upgrade from Cueto to Baker, it should be an upgrade, but I really don't know what we're going to get from Cueto. Either way you're clearly getting a safer and more consistent option by upgrading to Baker.
The wrench that gets thrown into the whole thing is Quentin. I see him bouncing back this year, and by moving him I see you offsetting a lot of the gains from VMart and Hunter.
Seems to me this is a situation where you're selling Cueto, Quentin, and Soto at a time when their value is at it's lowest, and buying VMart at his peak. It really isn't a bad deal for you really as you have Mags to plug into the OF. But if you think all or 2 of these three will have bounceback seasons (which is probably why you drafted them) you might want to wait and see if they'll regain some of the value they lost last year.
If those guys are worrying you, well then pull the trigger and take a safer route, it really isn't a bad deal, just not the best time imo to deal these guys.
the real upgrade i want to make is Baker over Cueto. i do think Cueto is going to be good, but i dont think the WHIP is going to be that good. Baker is an upgrade except maybe for Cueto getting more K's, but other than that Baker is going to be better than Cueto. Baker last year from May on was one of the better pitchers in baseball side from being a top K pitcher. i picked Cueto in the 17th round where the other guy picked Baker in the 12th. i doubt he makes that deal one for one. i would like to get more SB from Hunter. i also doubt he goes for Baker/Hunter for Cueto/Kubel. i dont want to give up either Cruz or Pence. i do think Quentin can bounce back, but im not that sure id want to go Baker/Hunter for Cueto/Quentin. i would like to get atleast one of my bench guys in a starting spot, so i could offer something 3 for 2 to free up a starting spot.
I definitely do this deal. It's pretty simple, the players you are getting are worth more than what you are giving. And it makes your team better. Do it.

I'm with you on your thought process, and putting myself in your shows I see the dilemma you're facing. I think Quentin is going to havea strong bounceback season too, and you don't want to sell him while his value is lower than you see it becoming. If you like the upgrade to consistency and knowing what you're getting with Baker a lot, as well as the SB from Hunter, then you should make the deal. VMart is an upgrade over Soto (barring injury, which is always a question there), and Hunter+Maggs is close enough to Quentin+Kubel.
Really, this is a good deal. I'd have no problems pulling the trigger. But if you're a gambling man, and feel strongly about how Quentin especially will perform this year, then you may want to hold him and deal him when his value is closer to where you project it to be.
