Combating Late Season Inactivity in 1-Year Leagues

Two things we do in our league:

1) the team with the biggest improvement from the All Star Break to the end of the year gets his league fee back. This doesn't include the teams that win money for being 1st or 2nd (they're not allowed to get both prizes).

2) We use a tiered system of "fines". In other words, everyone pays the league dues ($100 in our case). If you finish 10th, you owe an additional $75. 9th owes $50 more and 8th owes $25 more.

That sounds like the worst possible thing you could do to keep the owners coming back next year. You are probably looking for at least three owners each year.

Have to agree. I don't think I would use that to combat inactivity. Just because you finished in the bottom doesn't necessarily mean you were inactive or not trying. Just might have caught some bad breaks this year.

I'm in two leagues that use this system and we've never had an owner leave either league in the past 6 years.
