Which young OF will have a better year? Standard 5 + OBP. I have Stubbs right now and I've been dangling him.
Stubbs - Speed and Pop. Not much of an eye for walks. Manager loves to play lousy veterans in place of rookies - glad Eric Patterson's no longer a Red!
Bill James' prediction for him is pretty eye-popping: 601 Plate Appearances .267/.336 11HR 76R 51RBI 51SB!!! Other projections are not so favorable and vary wildly (mostly due to playing time).
He's got a 7.6 UZR at CF, telling me he can man his position and shouldn't lose his job due to defense. He could however get off to a bad start and lose his job pretty fast I think.
Austin Jackson - Pretty much the same deal as Stubbs - except that it's be noted that he has been much more patient this spring. Reports said the Yanks have been shocked at the hitter Jackson's become over the past few months. Suddenly he's taking pitches! He seems to have a firm grasp of the DET CF job, impressing everyone with his all around game. He's penciled in to lead off.
Bill James (I think his latest project was updated as it predicts a much higher OBP than other prejections) likes him too, but predicts far fewer appearances: .294/.356 4/40/37/14 in 309 PA - Multiply those numbers by 2 and that's a pretty sweet year in 618 PA!
Stubbs is a better basestealer with a little more pop I think. Not your prototypical leadoff man and Dusty Baker has a short leash for rookies. Jackson looks more like a typical leadoff man and he seems to be improving fast!
Jackson's on waivers right now.
Jackson seems like a safer bet and more likely to stay in the leadoff hole through out the year. Raburn's a decent option

I like Stubbs, but isn't baker planning on platooning him? If so, I'd go with Jackson

I have E. Cabrera and Ian Desmond at MI. Cabrera could go in place of Stubbs I suppose.
Stubbs looks like the clear front runner to play CF and leadoff right now - over Dickerson. I haven't heard about a platoon. Dickerson's really his only competition. Gomes doesn't play CF and Balentien is pretty bad at the plate, not to mention well below average defensively in his limited time in CF.
I'm leaning towards Jackson more and more. Hopefully I can get someone interested Stubbs and trade him.

I think you could drop Everth for Austin Jackson and live happily everth after.
Seriously, though, the discipline is no small thing for Jackson, and I heart Everth doesn't bring as many peripheral numbers.

As much as I like positional depth, I think you're right. Maybe I'll just dump ECab and see which outfielder sticks. There are always crappy middle infielders around on waivers.
