I have no Catcher, any thoughts?

Postby captkirkcud » Tue Mar 30, 2010 12:45 pm

I just traded away my only Catcher B. Molina along w/ Pedoia and got Votto and Aramis Ramirez in the deal. Who would you pick up in FA, the only ones worth mentioning are Olivo, Baker, and I-Rod.....I could try and trade Kinsler for Victor but I would be getting screwed, already have Utley at 2B and my offense is totally stacked.....should i just start the year w/ crappy catcher and hold off on Victor for now? Kinsler is in my UTL spot anyway and i could move Jason Heyward or Kyle Blanks off bench?

Who else is available on the WW to fill the UTIL spot? Blanks is fine but is a risk. See if you might be able to get the trading partner to add a little something to sweeten the Kinsler for VMart deal.

I would be using Heyward not Blanks for UTL

Don't take a bath on a trade just to fill your C slot. Grab Olivio, or whomever, and try to work a better trade as the season starts. There's a decent crop of young Cs that may be called up as the seaosn progesses, so you may find some value there or even on the wire as the couple of remaining C battles resolve themselves.

I think i agree, i normally could care less about C position.....But on the other hand Victor is more like an everyday player

If you can work out a fair trade for Victor (or whomever) then go right ahead of course, just don't give up the farm for him.

Olivo is the choice.

Blanks is a monster. This year's Kendry Morales. I wouldn't be surprised if he's the NL ROY over Heyward this season.

I'd grab Olivo, but usually with the C slot, there are other options on the WW. List a few more names... Kelly Shoppach around? He's batting well this spring for the Rays, has 20-homer potential with a good amount of ABs, and the best part is that Dioner Navarro might start off the season hobbled, allowing Shoppach to runaway with the starting gig.

I don't mind trading Kinsler away for a catcher, but make sure you get a little extra in return. (Like send out Kinsler and a worse SP for Vmart and a better SP). I agree with the others, you shouldn't screw yourself over by receiving less value just because of positional scarcity.

Grab Shoppach. I like him a lot better than Olivo (who I personally think will lose in his competition for playing time against Iannetta).
