10 Team H2H ... Rogue strategy of punting W and K

C Suzuki
1B MCab
2B Utley
3B Zimmerman
SS Alexei Ramirez
OF Sizemore
OF Granderson
OF Abreu
UTL Hill
BN Ibanez
BN R Davis
BN Cantu

SP
SP
RP Papelbon
RP Soria
P Soriano
P Wagner
P Hoffman
P Gonzalez
BN Liriano
BN Sheets

I offered Hill, Ibanez and Gonzalez for Ethier and Valverde. He countered with Hill straight up for Ethier.

Thoughts?

No I would rather keeper Hill. And IMO just plain dump to punt W's and K's. Especially considering your hitting his really good but not exceptional, and it should be with not drafting any SP. I would look to the FA market and grab some SP then move Utley for a couple of solid arms. Atleast give yourself a chance to win all 10 cats each weak instead of just 7 or 8.

I am keeping Hill no doubt. Don't see any reason to trade him for Ethier.

I would not... they are similar hitters, but Hill has the much scarcer position... where is your starting pitching?!? Are you really punting Ws and Ks!?! Insane, good luck with that strategy.

H2H with 10 categories (assuming 5x5?) and you're punting two of them?

So each week, you're opponents have a 2-0 advantage to start with. 8 categories left - You have to win 5 of 8, just to tie! You win 6 and you're lucky to win 6-4. You will stay in the middle of the pack all year. Not to mention if one of your RP gets lit up, your ERA and WHIP will sky-rocket. NOT a strategy I would ever recommend.

Anyway, good luck with that strategy and check back in - let us know how it's working out.

I can drop Cantu and Davis, move a closer and have 5 Starters if its not working out.

Hold onto Hill, and I agree with the above regarding the need to get some SP. The teams that go the closer route MAY make the playoffs but rarely win it all because they are so handicapped when it counts most against the best (often) most-well-rounded teams.

There is another team in need of a 2B who has Markakis. How much better do we value Markakis over Ethier?

I'd take Markakis for Hill. Ethier ehhhhh... maybe. Depends how much I'm drinking.

There's no reason to be dumping any category, let alone 2 categories in a 10-Team format. Especially since you have talented hitter rotting on the bench. Why draft guys to sit and not draft SP?

Trade bats for SP now - sorry but your strategy will fail. I might even trade Utley instead, since you'll get a monster score for him and Hill's a suitable replacement.

Check out my team and let me know what you think: http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?pl ... position=P

Yeah, I actually kinda agree here... ship out Utley and try and get a monster haul (Lince and Verlander like combo). I definitely wouldn't settle for anything less than one Top 5 SP and one Top 15 SP if I'm trading Utley. You could probably drop Cantu in a 10-teamer, and slot Hill in at 2B and put Ibanez/Davis at Util. I'd also see if anyone bites on sending Papelbon and Soria for high-end SP2s who have low-end SP1 ceilings, like Nolasco, Scott Baker, Tommy Hanson, Cole Hamels, etc. REVERSE COURSE CAPTAIN!!!
