5x5 draft feedback - WHIR!

Postby chadam189 » Mon Mar 29, 2010 6:12 pm

What's up guys,

I haven't played roto in a few years, and I just finished my draft for a 10-team non keeper 5x5 with 1800 IP limit. Please let me know what categories it looks like I might be really strong / weak / middle-of-the-pack in. I'm not asking for calculations or anything; whatever your first impressions are will be fine with me. Thanks in advance, and post a link so I can help you in return!

Better suited for the Anyalize Team forum...

Not a big believer in the leftside of your infield for sure, but sacrafices at one position mean upgrades at another...

Very nice OF, solid at the top with a cat in Kemp that does it all, followed by another cat that does in Markakis (just not as much as Kemp), Dunn with the big power numbers then 2 speedsters. Very nice combination of players I must say!

Util is weak, in a 12 teamer there has to be something there with a little more pop then Nick Johnson?

Pitching, not exactly sure where you made up for the middle of the road INF (outside of Tulo) and lack luster UTIL bat when theres no true ace here?
Nolasco is definitely a nice pick, but not to anchor a rotation. Harang=low win totals, maybe 140-150Ks and an ERA and WHIP that will kill your team, as a #2? Then comes Peavy and Liriano who where both hurt most all of last year, which yes COULD be turn around stars, but could more then likely struggle a bit. I like De La Rosa/Sanchez as 4/5s Good K rate guys with potential.

Buchholz and Matusz, outside of Nolasco, are the stars of this rotation, and that hurts given both are 'rookies' and could either do a little damage or flop just as easily. Young arms=Unpredictable.

Then theres the Relievers... Between Qualls, Jenks and Capps your looking at about a 4.00 ERA, Francisco has some injuries last year, and also sported a nasty 3.80+ ERA and has Feliz yipping at his heels. Frasor is the only guy i would want to roll with there. Dump Capps hes not worth a crap.

Overall your Pitching is shaky at best, your bats are a little bit better, but a lot of youth may hurt a bit. Your OF is stellar and the strongest point on your squad. I would first dump Capps for a bench bat, then look to upgrade Johnson for your UTIL slot.

Help me out...

I LOVE your offense...I fear for your SP. A lot of middle of the road starters some really scary (Hammel at home, Harang anywhere) and some just boring (Kuroda), but there's upside with DeLaRosa and Sanchez and of course Nolasco. Matsuz could be good too. You may be okay...it's just less amazing than your offense which is really well rounded.

With the IP max you need high K guys. I loke Nolasco, Sanchez and Peavy but the rest of your staff will prob. hurt you with that cap.

I really like your offense, but I am still not sold on Sandalov. You should look to move one of your OF for a high K guy.

I don't do roto at all, but I would have to go with the concenous in saying your hitting is solid and your pitching is big ???? I would look to move a great bat to a team with weak ones for a great arm and ok bat (to add to your bench)

I agree with the thoughts above -- the outfield is stellar, the infield is solid, the utility could be better (is this 12 teamer or 10 teamer? I see you noted 10 teams but someone referred to 12 earlier). The Starting pitching will be awesome for K's, and your innings should be fine. I worry a bit about your lack of a dominant stopper -- both for the wins factor (as Bucholz and Matusz are good but young) as well as the ERA and WHIP factors. I like De La Rosa and Sanchez, but because they walk their share, it is worthwhile having an era/whip anchor at the top so they are serving you well and not harming you.

If it were me, I'd try to divest a bit in the outfield to bolster the SP. You sort of need Kemp and Dunn for their solidification of your power and production in general, but I do think you could move a Markakis or Carlos Gonzalez and Liriano (hot right now off a great Spring) and try to land a Sabathia or Verlander. Alternately -- actually, preferably -- I'd try to move a guy like Borbon and Liriano to do this because you can't underestimate the value of guys who do it all. Even though Borbon will steal a ton of SBs, Cargo will steal his share but also allow you to avoid tanking in another area.

The Nick Johnson is fine for now, but if/when he gets hurt you will want to look for another option. At the moment, try to grab one stud SP with great ratios and era. If not Liriano, try to get someone to bite on Bucholz or Matusz.

Thanks for mine.

I'm unfamiliar with Roto. At a glance, your SP looks suspect. I love Nolasco and Peavy but you're pretty thin after that. The consolation is that you might be okay on wins as your starters are all on pretty decent teams.

You're definitely weakest at SP. Outfield is strong. 1B is a little weak for my taste. Unlike some others, I like Johnson as your Util guy. Think he's gonna have a good year.
