Heyward not available in Yahoo draft?!

What should our league do? Heyward wasn't available to be drafted...

First, has anyone else seen this?? Yahoo roto draft this afternoon. I search for him to draft him, and he's not there. Second, what should the league do?

You are in a Public League and your commish selected option #2 when setting up the league. Congrats to the guy with #1 waiver priority, or the quickest to the FA page if you use straight FA.

No kidding - absolutely did. I checked the league settings...didn't really even think about it before the draft. Guys like Strasburg were there.

The above explanation is the most likely one, aside from the fact that you must be in a private league, not a public one. Public leagues have no commissioner, and our public leagues use the first of those two alternatives.

Same issue in one of my private leagues as well (not commish). Yep, had the wrong setting there for who's available.

It was noticed just after we started our auction, at which point it was far too late to address it.

So.... what to do now? My league's having quite a debate about it right now. Most seem to think that the only "fair" way to do it is to freeze him out of the league for the whole season. Another owner thinks that he has a legitimate claim to him as the first team to nominate a player (and the first to bring him to our attention in the chat) during the auction.

Personally, I don't think he'll be that much of a game-breaker for the entire league (especially in a H2H). But, it does present quite a conundrum for a commish right of the bat. Don't think I'd want to be in those shoes today, with half your league ready to quit no matter what you decide.

And this is part of the reason why I moved my keeper league from Yahoo to ESPN two years ago. Yahoo is always late to add players and it frustrated everyone. Very bad.

Except of course that he is added, and it's not Yahoo!'s fault that certain commissioners chose a league setting which had nothing to do with Yahoo! adding him and everything to do with his status as a major league rostered player.

As for ESPN format leagues... keep 'em. I actually like the default Yahoo! settings quite a bit this year, at least for 12+ team leagues (at 10 or lower you'll have a league that's too shallow with only 9 or 10 hitters).

Well as of two years ago it didn't matter what setting you used, they sometimes would not have certain players available. And don't get me started on call ups...ugh the pain.
