Who should I keep? Justin Upton or Troy Tulo?

Postby ferris182 » Sat Mar 27, 2010 12:16 am

I can keep one of these guys. Who should I go with?

I'm leaning towards Tulo because SS is not as deep. We can keep 2 players and my other keeper is Longoria. OF is pretty deep compared to SS, but I am also unsure if I should keep Upton because of his upside.

What does everyone think?

This is a tough call, but I would keep Upton. I'm not sure there is any player out there with more potential or more upside than Justin right now. SS is thin, and Tulo is going to be a superstar, but Upton will be there first, will be more consistent, and will put up better overall numbers.

Justin Upton is a projected 40/40 guy. Its easy for me. Tulo is great, i just think he had a lucky year last year. You want to know some things you don't know about Justin, find interviews with BJ where he talks about his brother. And hes only 22. A keeper for the next 12 years, CONSERVATIVELY.

I don't know if Upton is a projected 40/40 guy this year. It may be possible down the road, but I haven't seen projections of 40/40 for him this year.

Any other thoughts?

This is atough call.....but I think I would goTulo especially because SS is so thin. Tulo has the talent and will be a star. Upton may turn out to produce better numebrs overall. But I feel right now there is only 1 other SS that will produce better than Tulo (Hanley). There is lots of outfield talent that can give you great numbers maybe not Upton numbers but they will give you solid numbers still.

So my call is Tulo only because of the lacking depth and star power at SS.

Please help me out

Its 2 Keepers, Keep JUp.

Think of it this way, what are the odds that a squad with lets say Lincy or Pujols or Braun or HanRam are going to keep a SS with those? Very slim to none, with only 2 keepers you have to keep the BEST available talent with the BEST available future. Justin gives you both over Tulo. With only 2 keepers position scarcity isn't AS much of a factor. JUp as a 40/40 this year? No. Future? Maybe, even thats a stretch. But out produce Tulo this year? Fair Shot. Out produce Tulo in the Future? Most Definitely. The combo of Longo and JUp, first of is just SWEET, and second off gives you a great base going into the draft, OF is deep yes, but OF talent like that of Upton is NOT deep. Plus odds are better at the chance of getting Tulo back in the draft then they are getting Upton back...

Gimme Longo and Upton any day over Longo and Tulo.

In a keeper that only lets you keep two guys you want the one with the highest ceiling, even if you have to wait a year. Upton, no question for me. The only thing that can keep him from eventual # 1 overall status is health IMO. I traded for him in a keeper that lets us to keep one OF and I likely overpaid based on current values but Upton could win me that trade as early as this year.

Position scarcity can change significantly in a few seasons but health permitting Upton's status as a top three overall player could last 12 years or more as mentioned previously. If you think you're going to be in the league for a while, you want to be the guy with Upton. If he can build on last year, it's possible you might not even have to wait that long for the good stuff. ;-D
