Wright, Felix, Kinsler, Lind?

Postby jjrup » Fri Mar 26, 2010 5:06 pm

Fellas,
Always appreciated the advice and been more than happy to help in return.
Here's my situation. 10 team, H2H, points, 3 player keeper league. I have the 2nd overall pick. 1st pick is going to be Lincecum. My three keepers are Kemp, JUp, and Zimm. Rather than boring you with all the different statistical categories, I put the points they are projected to earn (based on Cbs) for this year. Because of keepers, I will get another pick, seven picks later
Just wanted some opinions on the direction to go.
Morneau (624 pts.) --- top 1B available, but only 3 other teams still need one and Pablo, Kendry, etc. are still around
Lind (610 pts.) - I have 2 outfielders, but my league rewards HR's with 7 points for a solo shot
Kinsler (608 pts.) - Top guy at a somewhat weak position
Bay (587 pts.) - See Lind above
JRoll (577 pts.) see Kinsler
Wright (560 pts.) --- low projection based on last year's stats --- could use him as my Utility guy
King Felix (475 pts.) --- always nervous drafting a pitcher this early. Top 4 are off the board, but most others are still around, including CC, Haren, etc.
Thanks....please leave your link and I will definitely give my two cents.

My strategy is always the understanding that in the draft, you get the biggest names you can get, and you trade your team into shape. Can you trade Wright and a later pick, say Abreu for Felix and better OF? Can't imagine you couldn't. Get the biggest name unless you're in a league that will not trade. My two money leagues, we trade fairly regularly, and the guys are knowledgable. That helps a lot. Some leagues just don't trade though, and then you gotta change youre strategy.

Thanks for help on mine.

I'd take Kinsler, as you already have a 3B in Zimm, you can use anyone as U. Then take Pablo, as he is probably eligible for 1B/3B, giving you great versatility.

10 teams x 3 Keepers means that, theoretically (and this is never the case) that the top 30 guys are off the board. 1B is Deep and i'm not a HUGE morneau fantasy guy anyways, Pitching you can get at the dollar store, 2B is deep as it gets and i dont trust Kinsler to stay healthy for a full year as he NEVER has. Lind is a beasty and i might take him with your 2nd 1st rd pick if he gets to you but you GOT to go Wright here...

He could be a top 10 guy at the end of the year and i'm projecting (as all the experts are) that he'll be at LEAST a top 20. Jay Bay and Rollsy are not options in the first round (essentially 4th rd).

Wright's the call... even if he is Util and you can't trade him, you probably wont want to.

Good luck and thanks with mine!

Wright because of the trade strength ... and he is bound to have a better year regardless.

I hate taking a gamble on pitching too, but I would go with Felix. All indications are that he is in for another stellar season, and he is trade bait as well. Just my two cents. Thanks for chiming in with mine...

Wright by a lot. He's the best player available by a lot. A fully healthy Kinsler would be a good pick too, but he's not doing too well to open up the season on time..

With only 3 keepers, I think you still need to take the best available. Let's say you were in a normal draft - do you start worrying about positional needs in the 4th round? To me, that's too early. Take the best available player, and that's Wright.
