If you were in a 10 team keeper(24 round draft) would you make the following move?

My Carlos Santana (a 24 round keeper)

for

His Josh Hamilton (9th Round)

The way our keeper work would be that if i did the trade and kept Hamilton next year, I’d give up my 9 spot where as Santana would essentially stay on my minor league squad until called up and then be a 24 pick for the next 5 years

My team is young this year as my outfield consists of Span, LaPorta, Blanks, Cuddyer, Morgan and Jones. I know it's lite on bats but I figure my runs and SB's can make up for that as my pitching staff is where I am thick.

Do I add Hamilton's bat and lose out on Santana's future or say screw it and build off what I have?

I would probably do the deal. OF has some depth and you'd be getting a top catching prospect that won't cost you your 9th rounder next year.

I've soured on Hamilton. He's injury prone and I think he's getting overhyped.

Well I'm the one with Santana so I would be adding Hamilton to my outfield as listed above.

So your saying I should hold on to Santana and ride my young OF?

I'd go with Hamilton, especially if you're looking to win the next few years. Santana probably won't get called up until June at earliest and he doesn't have the kind of immediate upside Hamilton does.

I think you do the deal. I like Hamilton for a decent bounceback, and it's not as if he's old. A 9th rounder isn't too much to pay for him. Low-cost high-upside rookies are honestly not that rare, and Santana, though good, has a broken hamate bone and won't help you much this year, if at all. As always, plan for the next year or two, there'll be another young stud to drool over next year.

I'd take Hamilton there, he's great value in the 9th, even with some injury risk.
