Can only keep 1... who would you rather have in the future.... not just this year as i expect carter to make a bigger impact this year. Thoughts? Carter or Smoak?

I would keep Chris Carter. Smoak is expected to be good, but I expect Chris Davis to solidify himself as a big league slugger this year. For the most part though, I would keep Carter because he has 2400 plate appearances in the minors to prove his numbers, whereas Smoak only has 533 plate appearances. I think Carter has a quicker, easier path to the bigs because of his experience and less competition.
Help on my question if you can:

i agree on carter (despite his bad spring 4-25) but i keep reading he's homer or nothing while smoak is an all around hitter.
but yah carter should impact soon.... since the a's bats are dreadful. tough call though.

Gahh I was trying to not have any Rangers bias, but you're right about that. Based on K/BB ratio I'd probably take Smoak. Small sample size, but Smoak has walked almost as many times as he has struck out. (80 BB, 91 SO). While Carter has struck out almost twice as much as he has walked. (285 BB, 552 SO)
It's hard to predict anything with prospects, but I do feel that guys with good eyes develop faster than pure swinging-out-of-their-shoes sluggers.

I, too, take Smoak.
But this isn't easily or one you lose at easily. Either makes for a fine addition.
