I am in a 10-team head-to-head, points-based league (BA not included) with standard scoring mostly. I have a pretty solid squad, but our league only allows for 2 position reserve spots. I am looking to have one on the bench with some good upside or breakout potential, while the other is a more reliable replacement in case of slump or injury to a starter. Here is my current breakdown:
There are several good pickups on the waiver wire and I am trying to figure out if I am good where I am or if I should make some moves. Here are my top choices on waivers: Daniel Murphy, NYM; Drew Stubbs, CIN; Reimold, BAL; Alcides Escobar, MIL; Headley, SD; JJ Hardy, MIN; Austin Jackson, DET; LaPorta, CLE; Jake Fox, OAK.
A lot of bench bats on this team. Do you play 2 catchers? If not, I wouldn't mind dropping Doumit. He's constantly injured, and if you already have Soto there's really no reason in keeping Doumit around. Do you play with three UTIL? I wouldn't mind dumping Alex Gordon (currently injured, again, and a huge bust) and Loney (decent real-life player, but lacks power out of a 1B to be really fantasy relevant) and Prado (I like his skill-set, but for a 10-teamer he might be fringe-worthy of being roster-able). I would snatch up Stubbs, Reimold, and Alcides. For the others, I would put them on my watch list and make any necessary switches using F. Guit and V. Wells.
Pick up Escobar, Stubbs, and Reimold. All have major upside. Also, these guys could break out and could either help you or make good sell high trade bait.
Drop Gordon, Gutierrez, and Wells. Wells has no upside and hasn't done much in recent years. Gordon is hurt and ineffective. A complete waste of a roster spot.
I would hold onto Doumit. If he mashes early, then you can trade him to a C needy team (provided your league isn't a 2 catcher league).
