Help with MiLB Draft Pick

Postby Jibba_at_work » Wed Mar 24, 2010 9:04 pm

Debating between the following:

Jaff Decker
Zach Britton
Dee Gordon
Jenry Mejia

I lean toward the first two. I know Britton isn't as highly ranked by most but I love that sinker. I love Decker as a hitter, but Petco?

I personally think Gordon and Mejia are the 2 best talents. If you need a player at a premium position you go Gordon, pitcher Mejia, crazy cut fastball.

Are you looking long term or more short term?

Gordon is at least two years out and undersized. Decker is closer and apparently the Mets are talking about Mejia in the 'pen on opening day.

If the Mets don't screw him up Mejia could be a #1 starter... I think I'd lean towards that.

I like Gordon a lot more than the rest. I'm also down on Mejia more than most because at this point he seems like a guy who throws hard with movement.

If you're down on him you should say something negative about him. :-D

He's got a plus (plus-plus?) fastball although it moves so much that sometimes he has trouble finding the strikezone. Of course his problems are that his secondary pitches are lacking, he hasn't thrown more than 94 innings in a season and now the Mets are beginning the SP/RP/SP jerking around.

I lean towards Decker because what he did last year was ridiculous. Usually we make excuses why HS draftees stuggle in the midwest league. who cares if he doesn't look sexy in a baseball uniform?

I also tend to go for players like Mejia since in fantasy it's relatively easy to find replacements if a guy busts. And I think Mejia has great upside.

I guess you could take my comment as a complement. Yes, he throws hard with movement. But he's pretty much just a thrower right now without much command or control. He also doesn't offer anything in the way of secondary pitches. His ceiling is certainly high and most like him a lot more than me. I'm just not sold on him yet.
