we keep 3 hitters and 3 pitchers,9 teams, std 5 X 5, money league, players can be kept 2 times (so you can have a player for 3 seasons total) The biggest names will be going back into the draft pool for the first time. I have first pick, who do I take? I am keeping 3 OF's, none of them steal any bases but there are a couple util spots. Would taking Hanley be ridiculous, even with Pujols being a few years older and a bit of a back issue?
No taking Hanley would not be ridiculous at all. I was actually meaning to post a thread similar to this, since I have done a couple of mixed league mocks where I take Han-ram over Pujols and find that I like my teams better when I take Han-Ram. The depth at 1B just seems so good this year. Not sure if others have had the same experience or not.
Pujols is the consensus NO.1 pick but I don't think anyone can really argue with you if you took Han-Ram, especially if he might fit your needs a little better.
Who are you keeping?

I have first pick because I finished in last and my keepers are proof of that. Ethier and Manny are in and the last choice is between Maybin, Doumit and Conor Jackson. I'm leaning toward taking a chance on Jackson bouncing back

P-Cain, Josh Johnson, Heath Bell
Your offense is not pretty, but for an NL Only you do have some decent SP in Cain and Johnson, that should let you focus on offense for quite a few rounds.
I'd rather have Hanley + Lee or Dunn then Pujols + Hardy or someone like that.
it's likely that all of those 1B's are going to be kept or taken before it gets back to me for picks 2.9 and 3.1. Another option is to go with Pujols and look for an Alcides Escobar or Ev.Cabrera type later. All keepers are supposed to be named tomorrow so I may have a little better feel then

Oh sorry...based on the list of who was available (Pujols, Hanley, Fielder, Braun) I thought there would be a bunch of 1B available. What 1B and SS are available? And who are your keepers?
If you don't take Pujols, you are skipping on the best player in baseball. Hanley has hit 30+ home runs only once in his career. Yes, that is only out of a 4 year career, but he is becoming less valuable because he now hits in the heart of the order so he no longer will give the high number of steals to go along with the potential 25-30 home runs. That's just my opinion, I don't think Hanley is as valuable as he used to be in the leadoff spot. The back thing is a non issue.
